Something NEW Amana Raytheon Washer

Was given this one along with the purchase of a dryer...yes gift with purchase. I ve gone through it and only found the wash action to be strange. The tub indexes with the agitation. Do not know if this is normal or if an issue.

Looks like a worn brake pad perhaps? It shouldn't be spinning during the wash!!!! These machines really shouldn't index at all...

That tub is really spinning, isn't it? It kind of gives a new meaning to the word indexing.
I've always liked the Raytheon Amanas and Speed Queens.

while watching the video clip of the machine-the agitation strokes are interesting-if not abnormal-during one stroke its very short-the other stroke is very long-like a Speed Queen stroke.And yes the rotating drum.It also looks like the agitator "indexes" as well-like its being operated by a stepper motor.the machine appears to have speed Queen lineage.Very nice-should look into fixing it-As another member said-check the brakes.

Why is the agitator stroke uneven? My Franklin does this, but it's designed to. I would think the agitation strokes would remain even, even though the tub is spinning. Why are the two things connected in an Amana design?

Does this mean any brand of washer would experience an uneven agitation stroke as long as the tub was allowed to spin?

I am also "flummoxed"by the uneven agitator strokes too-just an observation while watching that video strip.Watch the clip again and look at the slot at the top of the agitator-its missing its cap-or one of the agitator blades-you will see the uneven strokes and the agitator "indexing".I am wondering if the unequal strokes,and indexing has something to do with the turning tub?its almost just that-like the agitator was being moved by a stepper motor.I am sure that is not the case in that machine.Washers usually don't have stepper motors.

repair answered

The tub needs 3 new brake pads so it wont index then will agitate proper. The cap is missing. I need to find one at a junk yard, I m sure they are plentiful as I see these machines are failing most are around 14 yrs old now. I plan to replace the brake pads once I find a manual to show me how.

I bet the reason that the agitator strokes are uneven is likely that the transmission is spinning with the tub just like a Newton Drive (Is that what it's supposed to be called?) or Orbital Maytag...
