Hello Everyone!
I haven't been on for a while as my computer has been on the fritz and in the shop 3 times now.
Let's hope all is well this time.
I was on Craigslist a couple of days ago, (damn I shouldn't go there!) and I saw an ad for me and one for a Friend.
For the Friend?
A Maytag A512 washer (single speed, extra-large capacity) and it's matching Dryer DE/G312. Both look to be in good condition although the dryer's interior shows a little wear.
Get this though, $50 Bucks for the SET! Can you believe that?
I'm hoping my Friends get off their asses tomorrow and we pick it up.
And for me?
Another KitchenAid. This one is a Whirlpool made machine from about 1990.
It's the Superba "Architect Series". I didn't get a pic of the model # but it is a 22.
The only brochures I have of that design are of the 23 from 92-93 and then the same 23 from 95-96.
It's been used a lot and is in need of some TLC, but it's not too bad. And it's still a durable KitchenAid machine.
It sat in a heated storage room for a few years. There is some rust in the base of the sump, but not rusted through or anything. A bit more concentrated in one particular spot as it was stored on a tilt and that's where the last of the water sat and ultimately evaporated away. I think a good cleaning with CLR should make it sparkle as well as it can.
The racks are ok, but some definite wear and a couple of rust spots.
I'm hoping to get it picked up tomorrow or Monday. If it works well I'm thinking of making this one the heavy duty one and relegating the 19 to the plastics dishwasher. I haven't actually used my Bosch for that since I got the 19 cause the KA is so much fun.
And here's my question to you KitchenAid experts:
Is it better to use the 22 for the heavy duty stuff and the 19 for the less intense stuff?
I assume the filtration is better in the 22 but don't want to be stuck with a single rinse unit as I believe the 21 was.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I don't expect this one to have the longevity as the 19 to be honest though.
It's more used and worn than the 19 and so will not stand up as long as it's predecessor even though it is about 10-11 years newer.
Oh, this was a great adventure by the way. Sadly, his father had passed away in November and he was cleaning several years worth of stuff out of a six-plex rental property. He had an old Kenmore canister vacuum cleaner (green), and two stacked agitators amongst a few other things in that small storage room. A white Whirlpool Surgilator-(Canadian style), on top of a black bakestone GE Spiralator Activator. He realized I knew my stuff and we chatted a bit more and he showed me pics of two machines I didn't see that were in another room.
A Maytag A11 wringer and a similar year General Electric Wringer. Pretty cool.
It was nice to meet someone local who knows of these things and/or has an appreciation and history with vintage machines.
I told him about this club so he may be lurking on and off and hopefully enjoys the site.
I'm looking forward to yet another new KitcheAid experience and hope this machine is working well after a good clean up.
Thanks for reading my thread and for any advice and suggestions.
Oh, got the Maytag DE50 back in November.
Haven't opened it up or anthing but I believe it is the typical belt issue with the clear exhaust fan belt.
more on that another time.
