Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Its so sad, that its come to this, T/L people have you ever had to wipe out the tub (other than after a lint filled rug)? One could argue that if the machine needs a cleaning solution, after a period of use. Are the clothes really clean? signed, I will T/L as long as I can.

We get these things over here

I've never understood the need for them. As long as you wash towels and bedding in hot water (60*) and leave the door ajar between washes there's no need to do any sort of maintenance washes or to use special cleaners.

I guess it's just another way to get every last penny out of consumers.

I was warned when I bought my FL washer that they tend to mildew around the door gasket. Solution, as pointed out by electron800 is to leave the door ajar to let it dry and air out. I've had my washer for three years with no need to clean it - the water here has little mineral so no deposits have built up.

Blimey

Neither my mother nor I have ever had a problem with any mould in a machine...ever.

Neither of us use any bleach and my mother is very very sparing with conditioner...

My feelings are that the main causes are

- fabric conditioner
- not wiping out the door seal (and I don't do it weekly)
- not keeping the door ajar

Cleaning agents or special processes should not be needed my cynical feeling is that this is yet another way for people to part with their hard-earnt
