Help Support :

The ironer in the "mangler"

Was a 5 roll Baker Perkins and was much much larger. cannot say for sure but think that is a single roll D'Hooge about 1935 it is a steam model.

There is also a washer with it about 3 photos down

not sure about the make of the washer but is a 4 pocket slide out model

Believe It Or Not

There are still plenty of abandoned estates/large buildings/laundries littered about the United States or Europe with mouldering equipment still in place. Am sure the scrap scavangers would love to get hold of the things but aside from wrenching the odd bits off you'll need a blow torch to otherwise take the things apart.

All this stuff was not only built for the duration but bolted and or otherwise built into the laundry area, so until the building is taken down they're not going anywhere. That is again unless someone goes in there with a blow torch! *LOL*

The old (and rather huge) ironer that was part of the Ellis Island hospital is still there. IIRC funds are being raised to restore that part of the island including perhaps the laundry area.

As the value for scrap goes up-someone might go in and try to salvage that equipment for the scrap metal.esp if it contains Stainless Steel and copper.Otherwise, yes if the building gets demolished-the equipment gets demolished, too.Only hope then are the peices of the equipment go to the scrapper.Nowadys when buildings get torn down-the metals are sent to the scrapper.Remember when this hapoened after 9-11 cleanup? the metal went to building a new ship for the Navy.
