When I was a child, I use to love to watch my mom's White Westinghouse washer. The big blue "sea monster" (aka agitator) was alive in there! Throwing my GI Joes in to the clutches of it's ruthless terror was always fun! :) I finally found a blue agitator on eBay some time ago. I noticed when I got the agitator how similar in size (base) it was to the Speed Queen's. Time went on, but I've kept my "FrankenAgitator" project in the back of my head.

Having a little extra time this Labor Day weekend, and wanting to re-live some of those fun times, I "engineered" the Westinghouse agitator to "ride" on top of the Speed Queen agitator base (after about 6 hours of modifications and 3 trips to the hardware store). Enjoy the show, but don't try this at home--it may fall apart next week! lol :)

That is too cool! So I gotta ask as well...what and how did you do it? And have you tried it on a full load? I did notice that your SQ washer comes up to speed in the spin cycles really quick. Mine takes forever. And your spray rinse is further out in the first spin than mine is. With mine the water is still in the tub draining away when the spray rinse starts. Kinda useless if you ask me.

I did that once with a Maytag.....this is just way too cool....and opens the doors to many possibilites....

the wheels are turning!

maybe we should have a guessing game of how its done?......

for one thing, there used to be a center post attachment for SQ top mounted agitators, before this bottom mount was used.....

but I am thinking pvc plastic pipe, and sizing it down to create a post......screwed to the bottom mount.....

second guess would be to modify and cut away a regular powerflex, and sliding the ramped over top and securing it in place....

inquiring minds want to know....

I was thinking that if this agitator had the handwash agitator one could bolt that to the base part of a SQ agitator and then slip the deep ramp on top and have a bolt the that fits the size of the cap or use a drive block and lock it all together...just a thought...

I noticed the agitator cap at the start of the spin does not rotate with the agitator.
Where would you attach the bolt to hold the two agitators together?

White WestingQueen Full Load video

As requested, here's a full load--I wasn't sure how large a large load was, so I filled it to the top of the vanes of the agitator--like the old Maytag wringers would say to do. Enjoy!

And yes, it's an optical illusion concerning the top of the agitator spinning, It tripped me out as well at first. It's had 4 loads so far, and so far so good. It's a keeper for now, but will keep my eyes on it. This washer doesn't get much use, except on the weekends.

That is just too wild Dan.....thanks for the full load and video.....I love it when we pull something off that they say CAN'T be done....and if you do have the handwash part underneath, talk about versatility!.....

Speed Queen should really come out with some new agitator de

Especially since their top load washers have no features other than speed selection and Extra Rinse for extra features. I think it would be nice if they'd come out with one like the one that is on that video with a bit of an updated style, and I think a washer with a dual action agitator from Speed Queen would sell really well! Too bad they couldn't use an agitator like the ones in the old Amana-tags and Maytag Atlantis washers since they were a very reliable version of dual action agitators. In fact I know they never even had dogs that needed replacing after every few years like most Kenmore and Whirlpool top loaders.

I looked at the video closely, optical illusion, tripped me out but, also need a new prescription:) Dan, you're AWESOME and deserve a standing ovation. The perfect combination- an extra large (3.3 cu ft) stainless steel tub, a large agitation stroke (210 degree) and (710 RPM) spinning speed...NICE!!!
I've always wondered how much more effective the Westinghouse (swirl/spiral) deep ramp agitator would perform without that dreadful indexing tub. The 'deep ramps' pull the load in like a dual action agitator...I'm so pumped.
It's amazing what I imagine you guys find the way to make it happen. Please keep the videos coming Dan.
I'll also try to track down the swirl-ramp agitator with the (double-action) hand-wash part for you. I'd like to see how the 'ribbed' outer surface ramps turn the loads.
Thanks again.
