It seems to me that the Frigidaire washers were/are always louder than other machines. Did the noise level vary much each time they changed design (unimatic, multimatic, rollermatic)? Which is the quietest? What's your input? Todd

IMO--

Unimatics nearly silent most of the time.Multimatics not irritating. Deep Clean agitator in solid-tub Rollermatics was noisy (and all the Rollermatic mechanisms could be squeaky). The 1-18's were noisest, especially during agitation.

A well tuned Unimatic is virtually silent, and the noise you do hear is sweet sweet music!

I do believe the beloved Norge/Wards Signature machines are probably the loudest, with that lovely "ka-cha" of the burp-up filter and the comforting "clunk" of the brake. And not to mention the lovely roar of the motor!

Our 1960 Kenmore Model 80 washer and dryer were both roaringly loud. The dryer had the lint filter in a bag on the top of the cabinet, which, I'm told, is why those models were so deafening.

The late-70's Frigidaire 1-18 I had for awhile was also quite loud. It had a prominent low-end growl to it. I could hear it all through my warehouse apt. But it was sure fun to watch. File under: Still Kicking Myself For Getting Rid Of It.

Always craving for more classic Whirlpool, Kenmore, GE, etc video demos to collect and enjoy without ever growing tired of. Happy New Year!--Laundry Shark
