For a long time now, I have been interested in how to make a regular clothes dryer more whisper quiet. Has anyone else thought of this? Much like high end dishwasher tubs are wrapped in and sound proofing rubber wrap, I would like to see how a standard Whirlpool dryer drum could be hushed by this same treatment. Has anybody tried this? Any thoughts on the issue?

We all know that it is possible as Whirlpool did with the Lady Kenmore washer with the thinner drive belt. Man that thing ran smooth and quiet like a fine automobile.

Easy.

Maytag Halo of Heat! No soundproofing needed.

Be careful putting anything on a WP/KM dryer drum because the belt goes around the drum. Any alteration in the drum's diameter can mess with the belt's tension and may prevent proper operation. Better to line the inside of the cabinet with the material. Also, the drum gets quite warm!

Good luck,
Dave

Insulation

There is an insulation made for insulating the inside of heating and ac ducts, it is compressed fiberglas with a woven heat resistant covering, you use a spray adhesive press it on and ...not only does it soundproof but insulates as well, a really fine product, go see a local sheet metal shop or H V A C contractor...oh, it is very thin, about 1/2 inch or so.
