Met a woman in Bucks County , PA in New Hope.

She recognized my "accent" and said "oooh a New Yorker!" I said "Yes, I'm from Queens" [That's a part of NYC; not my parentage!]

She said "I'm originally from Manhattan". So I asked if she liked living in PA. She said simply. "My father always said once you leave Manhattan you are camping.

We had such a good laugh!

If I had not been to California, Nebraska and Iowa the question New Yorkers have of "Is there really life west of the Hudson (River)" would have remained unanswered.

Since so many lovely foods in this country are loaded with salt and preservatives, maybe by eating those things my body won't futher decay and I can maintain my youth and vitality (LOLROFLMAO) by eating more crap.

My mother only cooked fresh (or frozen)- not ready-made or canned. And we only really had pizza and Chinese food for lunch / dinner out, and that was RARELY. So to this day I relish a good fast-food fix here and there!

Fat, grease, cholesterol, preservatives, artifical chemicals - bad for the heart and arteries; good for the soul!

I was attending to a quadriplegic some years back for extra money. I volunteered (off the clock) to help him and his girlfriend go out to a fancy dinner. [She was vising NY from Texas]. They wanted to go to a certain Italian restaurant that was reputed to be "connected".

How shocked was I to see a waiter carrying cans of canned Ronzoni soup up to the kithcen. I though to myself: Dayum, you need to throw a cloth napkin over that or you may end up swimming in concrete shoes with the fishes!

I made homemade mac and cheese for my partner and he DID NOT LIKE IT...he likes Kraft instead,and I think mine is good too,heres the recipe
1 8 oz box macaroni cooked in salted water
1 8 oz carton sour cream
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
2 beaten eggs
1 cup whole milk
1tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
mix all well,place in well buttered 2 quart dish,top with 3/4 cup buttered bread crumbs bake 30 min at 350
 
SPAM is salty but...

...if you do not put salt in ANYTHING else it is usually fine. Example: I like spam, fried with crushed pineapple and rice.

Bacon spam makes killer BLTs.

If you read the packet, it IS high in fat, but other than that it is not bad when you don't add salt to it or the thing you are cooking with it.

Considering some of the weird things put into some 'health foods' perhaps SPAM is a better choice.

Such a reaction!

I have found that you either love Spam or you hate it. There are many questionable processed foods (Velveeta anyone?) but Spam is actually pretty tame. I think it's good to cook with because you don't have to salt anything. In comparing Spam with Bacon to Spam Lite, I am amazed at how much less grease cooks out of Spam Lite.

Today I had a grilled Spam with Bacon and cheese sandwich (real American cheese from Cincinnati's Findlay Market, not Kraft Singles!).

Keep the debate alive and preserved, no need to keep this thread in its can!

i have yet to see this one...

I don't recall seeing a twice removed cousin from the SPAM family: Potted Meat Food Product.
I believe it is also made by Hormel. Quite possibly a bi-product leftover from SPAM production?
Then again there is another company out there that makes & sells a canned whole chicken. Yumm-diddly-ummy!

On the bright side of things, I just found a recipe that sounds extremely yummy: A bacon wrapped turkey with pear cider gravy. I just may try this one this year.

Try it again, with a couple of changes:

Use a cheese grater and simply grate SPAM onto the buns. Chop some onion and sprinkle that. Then grate some cheese of your preference on top. Pop them in the broiler to melt cheese and brown buns. MMMmmmmmmmm.
