Gentlemen,

I could use some input. I have a Friedrich Window Unit, KStar, circa 2004, about 7500 BTU. It has manual controls and it's one the last units built by Friedrich. I absolutely love this a/c. It also uses R22 and has a different "air feel" than the main high efficiency central A/C with the eco friendly refrigerant. The unit has been cleaned out from debris recently (including a wasp nest), evaporator coil has been cleared of mold and dirt, as the fan and backstop for the interior section. Is there anything else I can do to extend the life of this unit? I've heard that you can paint the exposed coils to help avoid leaks.

I think you have done about all you can to preserve that AC-Painting the exposed coil ends might help reduce corrosion and possibly holes there-had an '86 fedders die when a condenser tube corroded at the bottom and leaked the refrigerant out...
I have a 2009 friedrich of ~7500-marked"assembled in mexico",has an LG compressor.
