I LOVE my SQ FL washer. Made big mistake & washed Vellux blanket which disintegrated into million tiny tiny pieces. Checked foreign object trap under machine & no bits found there.

What now? Could some foam bits have gotten thru drum holes into hose/pump? would running several empty cycles 'clear" the bits (per SQ CS, although she had no clue where pump is).

Excuse my naive question. Does dirty water go from drum to hose & into pump?
I dont want to damage pump.

How did that happen? I’ve washed our two Vellux blankets in our Roper TL and never even found a fuzz ball in the bottom of the tub when the cycle was complete and little if any lint on the dryer filter after drying them.

What did you wash them with, lye soap or hydrochloric acid? Somethings not right about this at all. If this was a new blanket and the first time it was washed I’d think about returning it, or whats left to the store you bought it from.

Wow I bet that was a MESS...I've experienced similar with the rubber backing on bathroom rugs...they reach a point you can no longer wash them...You feel this tiny little rubber specks all over the inside of the washer
 
Disintegrated blanket in a Speed Queen front load washer

This shouldn’t hurt the washer at all. Speed Queen has a very well designed trap that will never clog. It’s only designed to protect the pump from foreign objects. Anything that can go through the small holes in the basket will just be flushed right on down the drain. It won’t clog the hoses. It won’t clog your plumbing.

Just take the blanket out throw it away vacuum out anything that’s in the drum and keep on using the washer, these machines are designed to be in laundromats where people put all kinds of crap in them, and they don’t clog up, this is one of the reasons why they don’t use silly things like recirculation pumps, etc. just more to clog up and go wrong.

Thank you John, I couldnt figure out how that foreign object trap is suppose to protect the pump. But feel much reassured by yr comments. I will give my beloved SQ a whirl.

BTW, on tangent. How the heck do ppl
1) clean the detergent assembly HOUSING -- mold w/in all the crevices.
2) And the gunk in groove btw door metal rim & rubber baffle
(have very hairy muddy dog)? It is a fight, holding baffle back while trying to get under it using paper clips, dentist picks, syringe rinse..etc.. SQ manual & rep say is wipe w towel & run vinegar 🙁
 
I'm not familiar with the name vellux but I do remember having a blanket at one time years ago that was sort of soft and fuzzy with a sort of foam like feeling. I didn't really care for it and not even sure what happened to it
 
I don't know what type of blanket that is either but the way you describe it... that foamy feeling...I had one of those one time and I threw that away... I hated it..

I wonder if you could get a garden hose and slightly spray in those nooks and crannies? Then just turn the washer on to drain the water.. Not sure if that would work... That's how I cleaned an old bissel carpet cleaner that couldn't fully be disassembled... I put it over the sink and used the sink sprayer to spray the areas I couldn't remove...

About the detergent dispenser.. I have no clue.
 
I found a steamer with a small brush attachment worked quite well to clean out mould from my Zanussi's detergent dispenser compartment, and was a lot easier than taking the compartment apart.

I now just leave the draw slightly open between washes to let it dry out, so I don't have to bother.
 
I’ve been there before…

I once had a blanket disintegrate in a whirlpool direct drive top loader, and it went similar to what you describe. I ended up just fishing out any larger chunks, and letting the machine take care of the rest. I would suggest running an empty cycle after picking any chunks out of the drum. I don’t think that anything large enough to damage the pump would have gotten through the holes in the tub.

Mold in front load, washer, dispenser drawers

The drawer comes out easily for cleaning, but it should really never be necessary. I’ve never cleaned the drawer and either of my Speed Queen front load washers one is 18 years old, about one and six loads I put liquid chlorine bleach in the dispenser. When I’m washing whites, I think the bleach keeps any mold out of the whole dispenser area.

Also a good idea to leave the drawer at least half open when you’re done using the washer along with the door of the machine.

I do try to leave both SQ door & detergent tray open a bit but 🤷🏻‍♀️
Overall i love my SQ, except for these 2 areas…
Why cant the chamber b 1 molded unit w/o all those seams 😖

On my duet... I always pull the detergent tray out and take it to the sink, pour out some water because there's always leftover water in there...then I place it on top of the machine for a couple of days. Inside the dispenser chamber on the roof is saturated with water droplets that would take FOREVER to dry on its own with the dispenser tray left in...I wipe that out.. If I don't do this, I get PINK mold..I've just gotten in the habit over the years of doing that so it's nothing to me now. I would be willing to think that you would need to do this with every single front loader..that's just a very obviously wet area. zero mold if I do this.. I do periodically wash the dispenser... but not that often
 
Mold, etc. in front loading washers

I don’t know what you guys are doing. This prompted me to go pull the dispenser drawers out of my two Speed queens. The first picture is of my three-year-old front load Speed Queen the second picture is of my 18-year-old one I had never removed the drawer from the newer one. I have never cleaned inside the compartment of either one.

On my older, Speed Queen front load washer. I left my sheets and pillowcases in it when I went to Australia for three weeks about four years ago, came back and and the sheets smelled perfect and I just put them in the dryer and put them back on the bed, I like to keep my machines, dishwasher, etc. free of mold and mildew.

It may be if you’re on well water or something that doesn’t have any chlorine in it maybe it gets worse I did have a customer with the front load Speed Queen that got a lot of mold in the compartment they had some sophisticated water filtering system in their house that removes all chlorine. They also never used any bleach in the dispenser.

I would think it’s very important to keep your machine mold and bacteria free. Of course this is not just a problem with front loading washers. We see lots of top loading washers, full of black mold, and the pink stuff.

Note, the pictures are actually backwards first pictures the 18-year-old machine second picture is the three-year-old machine. I also only ever wash and hot water and rinse and cold.

Look at the fill holes at the top...when the load is finished and I take the dispenser drawer out...the top has water droplets all over it...I mean, it HAS to... that's what fill the washer. If it doesn't get air (even though I use bleach) you will see pink start to form. No smell..at least on mine. I've taken a toothbrush and bleach water.. It looks mostly good but I can still see slight pink in some of them.
