this is simply awesome of Speed Queen to do such a thing. I realize KitchenAid did a breast cancer awareness edition mixer but I haven't seen any other major appliances offer a BCA edition anything. Hats off to Alliance/Speed Queen!

I called a few distributors for pricing, and apparently this special gives a $50 discount, (on a pair, I think), and according to the website they donate $20 for each of these machines sold. In the next week or two I'm buying the 542 with dryer...not sure if I'll do the special or not.

Now to find the post about how to raise the water level and defeat the lid switch.

Leonard:  Here is a video describing how to raise the water level.  Very simple.

And here's how to defeat the lid switch.  Even simpler!  You literally clip a clothespin to the flat metal lever as shown. It's on the back of the washer just above the drain hose.  Thanks/credit to Martin/Yogitunes for the photo.

I looped a lanyard around the lid switch

So it's not permanently bypassed, but it's easy for me to trigger it when I want to watch, without having to reach around behind the machine. I hang the other end of the lanyard on the water supply valve where I can see it and get to it easily.

LLMaytag it is a walk in the park

Just be very gentle when you turn the screw clockwise, the fill valve is not the sturdiest piece back there.

I would advise about 1/4 to 1/2 turn to start, checking each time until it comes to the level you like.

FYI all the screws are 1/4 inch.

Well, even though I'm not living in the house yet, the new SQs are there and I've done several loads and they run great. The clothespin is in place, but on one of my visits before move-in I'll try adjusting the water level.

These are the BEST, washers and dryers out in this world today. Their not computerized and digital, there old fahsioned and clean way better than anything else made in this day. Also, they actully do the job correctly.

Yeah, I'm somewhat excited...they are very cool. The dryer will be a new experience. Slightly larger than my Maytag Dependable Care Plus, and a stainless steel drum instead of porcelain. I'll miss the flashing moisture indicator light on the Maytag, and it will be interesting to compare "Automatic" drying with the SQ to the Maytag's "Electronic."

Let me know how the dryer performs

My GE has a moisture sensor and my research indicates the SQ models do not. I am curious about their drying performance w/o overdrying the laundry.

Well, apparently it has something to do with monitoring the temperature of the air leaving the drum....
