I'm either blessed or cursed with the ownership of multiple properties. But, I work in two different cities and we have escapes from both. We have a SQ stacked setup in two places. I noticed the other day when looking over the manual that SQ says if you are using wash pods to just throw it into the drum and not use the tray ? Now -- I hate the SQ pull out tray for the soap and bleach as it feels cheap and I can't read it! I also don't use it enough to remember the tray layout. It seems the washer fills with some water and then drains on the initial cycle? The water that washes out the tray is much later and seems to be in the second longer fill. Am I missing something about the initial cycle? If I am right the pod will just be washed away. We have a GE set at the beach and I use the tray for the pods and it's never a problem. Why would they make a unit that can't use pods? I am a manual reader so I'm surprised I missed this but I did not install the units and I'm only reading now because of a problem with the initial install (venting)

Speed Queen front load washer dispenser systems

The dispenser drawer is smaller on Speed Queen front load washers. They were worried about people putting way too much detergent in because it is a commercial machine.

If you put pods in them, they sometimes will get caught and not flow into the outer tub and it will cause a water back up
And cause a leak I’ve done several service calls for this problem. The pods are designed to go in the drum unless the manual for the particular washer you have says otherwise most front load washer should not have pods put in the dispenser.

I don’t know why the washer would fill and then drain out some of the wash water unless you’re using the pre-wash cycle, which does dispense the detergent in the right rear compartment and then drain out all the water and spin a little bit and then it dispenses the detergent in the right front compartment

I agree with you they could be better labeled, but it’s not hard to learn both. The detergent compartments are on the right. The fabric softener is the left rear compartment and the bleach is the front left compartment.

Hope this helps John

My dispenser leaks. Not every time and I'm not dumping huge amounts of detergent sloppily into the drawer. But it leaks and makes a big mess and don't know why. The detergent drips out the bottom of the drawer and then flows down the front of the machine. It's not a lot, more like a single trail. But it's happening and very bothersome. Anybody else, Speed Queen Front Loader Detergent Drawer leaking? I figured out how to remove the drawer to clean up the mess, you press up on something on the underside, and you can see that a pod would definately NOT work.

The problem I've had with pods is they get flung into the gasket area early in the wash cycle, and there it will stay for the whole cycle, never getting splashed with enough water to totally dissolve and no mechanical action to break it apart. I gave up on pods, they're a mess in this front loader.

Interesting on the drawer removal did not know it came out. Nothing too complex in there from your picture !
I assume the flow is temporary and not the way the washer fills? The drawer is a cheap execution of a questionable design.

I can see how there could be a back up if anything got in there ... do you use powder? Mine has never back up and I never gave a thought to the pod not fully dissolving due to the water flow -- or at least the sound of the flow to the drawer.

Guess I should switch to liquid -- that's a pain with front loaders especially this one. I hate trying to pour beach. No washer should be built today that can not use pods -- especially fronts

We have these in my condo. They do indeed do a quick fill and then tumble and drain. It is rather stupid because it will definitely lose whatever detergent was not soaked into the clothes. It’s more akin to the pre rinse of a dishwasher rather than the optional extended pre soak of a residential machine but you can’t turn it off.

Beyond that, we have seen issues with the casing of pods collecting in the door seals area too. These machines just aren’t designed for pods at all.

A tablespoon or two of powder in the drawer is your best bet. I put one in the prewash spot and then another in the main wash.

I have two SQ f/l washers as well, one a 2004 model (small door) as well as a 2017 (larger door, new balancing system) and both dispenser drawers are a weak spot in the machines. They both have difficulty dispensing at the correct time, the older model seems to dispense everything all in the first fill occasionally and the newer machine with a slightly updated dispenser design doesn't fare much better. I really do not use the dispensers, if adding softener, I wait until after the first fill before adding it to the drawer. We have had no trouble with the pod detergent, my son does mostly large loads, adding the pod to the empty drum before the clothes so that may help.
