Speed Queen / Huebsch W/D Wishlist

Hey everyone.. This thread is kind of related to the water tweaking thread I posted earlier. Malcolm suggested I start a new thread on this, so I thought I should get it out of the way.

For your Speed Queen / Huebsch front loading or top loading washers and dryers, what is your "Wishlist"? ie. What things would you like to see them incorporate into new models?

My wishlist for my front loader washer so far:

- Adjustable water level, probably fixed position, for different kinds of loads. (ie. Comforters, Heavily soiled clothing, delicate clothing, etc.)
- Separate pressure switch for rinses, so rinses use more water, while water can be conserved during washes.
- A 220 volt heater (Would work off of dryer plug) for sanitizing 95 C washes.
- A cycle time remaining indicator.
- Drum light?

I think the spin speed is adequate.. I'm not sure how much dryer my clothing would come out if they could do 1400 RPM spins, but I do know it wouldn't help the longevity the machine any.

For the dryer, I haven't used mine long enough to suggest anything yet... but I can certainly say that it's already fully featured, as much as a typical consumer dryer. (Although, there might be debate over the automatic cycles?)

I wonder if Chuck Melton knows about these forums?

220v heater would be nice, but even a 120v one would help. I'd sum it up as "guaranteed wash temperatures". 220v would allow for hotter cycles in still reasonable amounts of time.

Dispenser

My first request is for the washing machine detergent dispenser to have a liquid detergent insert similar to the insert for the Miele W3033 machine.

Next - Rinsing

I would like the 'EXTRA RINSE' switch to double the rinse in the 'RINSE/SPIN' cycle. I also think it might improve rinsing if the spin spray was in between each deep rinse.

Last - Boosted HOT

Lastly, I would like the Imperial machines to come standard with the 'BOOSTED HOT' heater installed.

Agreed! If not 220v, 120v boosted hot is a "nice to have".

I will admit that I am kind of surprised that everyone else has a liquid detergent insert, but they don't... Maybe their engineers didn't feel it was needed?

Malcolm, so you'd want the extra rinse switch to double the rinses to four instead of three? Or just double the rinse time?

"Extra Rinse"

I would like the "Extra Rinse" switch to be obeyed when using the "Rinse/Spin" cycle. So you could have one or two rinses.

I suppose since these machines were designed for a commercial application, a liquid detergent insert would most likely be either gunked up by powders or stolen.

But then again, they did design a drying rack for the dryer...

I would like to be able to select shorter wash times. Not everything needs or can stand that much washing. I mainly bought it for throw rugs and the nylon does not need 20 minutes to give up the soil since it is non-absorbant and the backing will be destroyed by all of that action. Shortening the wash means going to SPIN so that the only way to rinse is to keep setting it for rinse & spin which gives better extraction, but makes it a semi-automatic operation.

If you want boosted hot, I will repeat my method of getting very hot washes in the SQ, if your water heater is set to produce hot water. Fill it empty with hot water and let it tumble for about 3 minutes. Drain the water, but shut off the machine as soon as the water is out. When the door unlocks, add the load, but keep the door closed between items. Restart and you will have much hotter wash water than by just filling it once. I can save the water, all 4 or 5 gallons of it, and use it on the plants after it cools.

Ditto (tritto, quattro?) on the heater for the Imperials. I never understood why their clearly ToL units didn't have a heater while the less spectacular looking white ones were available with one?

Up to 30% dryer. As an example on the Hotpoint Aqualitis washer/dryer the residual moisture is only 38% compared to around 60% for laundry spun at 1000 rpm and 90% for laundry spun at 600 rpm.

And bearing life isn't affected from the rotational speed but only depends on the efficiency of the water shield in front of it.
In fact a standard washing machines has couple of bearing the size of a small truck!

Throw Rugs

I wash throw rugs on Delicate/Bulky.

Delicate/Bulky does not rinse as much, does it? It does not on mine.

has the same rinsing profile as the other cycles. Only wash and final spin are changed.

I agree.. about the extra rinse thing.

Up here, the Imperials command a huge price premium. My white rear control washer was $1900, but the Imperial is $2700 up here. Hard to justify $800 extra for stainless steel and the exact same features. (Besides, I like rear control anyway.)

How much cheaper are those machines in the States?

I guess in some ways I'm tempting fate by posting in a thread like this, but these machines are pretty well engineered.

The rear control unit can be had for around $1400.

On my wish list are things that no one has mentioned -

1) Timer Buzzers or Chimes!
If I am not near my front load Speed Queen washer and dryer, I never know when the loads are completed.

2) The other thing I would like to see on the dryer is some kind of moisture control that will stop the drying process once clothes are dry - like all other dryers have.

Other than that, everything is just peachy! My pair are almost 1 year old, and I expect them to last at least 10 more years.
