Speed Queen questions

I am enjoying the smooth, quick loads. I did notice that my clothing is coming out heavier and wetter than any previous washer I've owned. I tried a second spin, but it didn't help.

Is there anything to do about it, or am I stuck with longer drying times? (This is why the salesman recommended the F&P to me, due to longer wash but shorter dryer.)

Also, due to my hot hot water, the warm setting was really warm. In the winter it may be different.

And last, I have HE Tide liquid at home from my previous machine. Is that fine, or does the non-HE clean better in this machine?

there are parts you are leaving out that may help.....

what spin speed are you using?.....

how high is the drain hose from the floor?

2 factors that may leave more water in your load...

over sudsing can also leave a load wetter....

at 700RPM, these machines usually do a great job of extracting water

I've recently put a Traditional Top loader back into service after years of being Frontloader only and (From memory you previously had a HE Top Loader) I've found the same thing, by comparison to a load of clothes spun in the Miele or Duet, the load from the DD Maytag feels Wet and heavy.

People were used to the extra moisture for decades, so its not a problem as such, its just you need to re-adjust your senses and expectations coming from a machine with a >1000RPM spin.

After 3 months every time I hang a load out from the TL machine I still question why is the load so wet? I'm lucky that if it really bothers me, I can just put it through a HE machine to get the extra water out.

It's on regular cycle. The drain is above the washing machine. I'm using regular amount of detergent. The same I used in the past.

If a second spin does not help...

... you'll be more or less stuck with it.
The only thing to get faster drying would be a seperate spin dryer. They usually spin only half a load at ones but at speeds of 2000 RPM or more, so, drying times are even further reduced.

I think you will like your new SQ and I think you made the better choice for your needs, I would however look into a portable Spin dryer, I would also consider a way to reuse the wash water to further improve the washing effectiveness and keep costs of operation down.

I wouldn't get the speed queen. It is a great machine over all but you will be disappointed when you start using it. Get a front loader if you are looking for water and energy bill savings too.

I could go on but I'll get reamed by the speed queen police.

BTW: I can't give away the speed queen. So it sits in my basement. Across from the front loader that is in use.

I have both an HE front-loader (which is my daily driver) and a top-loading Speed Queen AWN542.  The front-loader spins at 1300 rpm, so I notice the extra moisture left in loads when I use the SQ, too.  It's most noticeable in loads of very heavy fabrics, such as bath towels.  They'll take quite a bit more time in the dryer.   With most other loads made up of lighter fabrics (sheets, shirts, etc) the difference is smaller.

 

If you like your Speed Queen (as I do mine) and don't want to bother with an extra spinner, etc., just get used to the fact that dry times will be a little longer.  This will make you feel better:  I grew up with a 1960 Kenmore washer that spun at only 515 rpm, so our Speed Queens are fast by comparison.

 

Detergent:  Go ahead and use up your Tide HE.  You may want to add an extra tablespoon or two for large and/or heavily-soiled loads.  Once that's gone, I suggest giving Wisk Deep Clean a try.  It does an excellent job of cleaning and is designed for use in both conventional and HE washers.  I've used both the liquid and pac versions; both do a great job in either of my washers.

thank you for the info frigilux but the product your mentiooning if its like all laundry detergent most canadien stores in the province of quebec no longer sell those products because i wiuld love to be able to buy some all laundry detergent when i do some laundry for me and my mom and seriously considering a speed queen washer dryer set as or next daily drivers but sadly none of my local stores near my town sell these products i wish there was a way to order these online with out having a shiping cost of 100$ or more if i order from a site like amazon sigh use to it by now because i think the laundry detergent that are sold in my local grocery store are the ones cheap cleaner as i have to rely on boosters like oxyclean ect to add to the detergent

Thanks for pointing that out, Pierre! I didn't notice that sunshine32 was located in Montreal. If Wisk Deep Clean is not available in Quebec, maybe you can suggest a good alternative to use in her Speed Queen.

Me if i could afford it i would be buying all laundry deteregent via amazon for my daily laundry use it would be the stain lifter all laundry detergent for all machines but i will be going on a cruise in december departing from new jersy new york but after me and my mom will be taking 2 extra days after or cruise to visit new york so since we are driving if we stop in a new york grocery store to buy stuff i will buy some all laundry detergent to bring home since we are driving but including the link to amazon if he or she wents to try to order in some wisk deep clean and if you look beside my name you will see that i am from the montreal region as well the south shore of montreal.

I don't have space for another machine, so that's not an option. In the regular clothes I didn't feel it, it was in the towel load, and even more so with the cloth diapers. I'll have to space out my laundry to have enough space to hang it all. I do over 10 loads a week.
