Speed Queen & SOLID TUB available near Pittsburgh, PA--Working!

Your attention please....

I am in the process of helping my father liquidate some property his family owns in the Pittsburgh area. If you are interested in any of this, please post a reply or contact me immeadiately--time is of the essence.

Included in the inventory are the following:

1) A seventies era SOLID TUB Speed Queen washer, appears to be a MOL machine and features helical drive w/ reversing motor;

2) An older (read 1960's or earlier) Speed Queen GAS dryer, has SS drum and burner access is at top right of machine; and,

3) A Speed Queen ringer, date unknown but probably late 40's or 50's--I seem to remember it having a timer on front and I think it has an aluminum agitator. I'll get more info.

I don't have pics available yet, but everything still resides in heated basements and is in good condition. And it all worked last time it was used, which has been a few years. I personally used the washer/dryer about 5 or 6 years ago.

I'm not going to bring these machines to San Diego, so I would like to find a home for them in someone's collection who can pick them up or wants to ship them to their location and ENJOY them (but not to immeadiately resell them on EBAY).

I'll make a very reasonable deal (on behalf of the estate) but would prefer to trade for a restorable machine (working or not) such as:

1957-ish GE Filter flo
1960-ish (solid basket) Norge
also--certain early Hotpoint parts

Now that it corrected, even though I'm a California Native {Sacramento} isn't Pittsburgh, CA towards the Bay Area Joe?

I would be interested in the Speed Queen Solid Tub Washer and Gas Dryer. I'm also certainly curious as to what other "Treasures" you find, of Small Kitchen Appliances.

It will be great to get to see all these "Beauties" Pix's when you get a chance to share them with us, hopefully real soon.

Steve, The machines are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Just a few miles south of the old Fort Pitt for which the city is named.

Pittsburgh, California is about an hour north of Oakland. There are several Chemical plants up there and General Chemical is one of my customers. If the machines were up there, I would just go get them!

As for basements, well California has very few residential structures with basements--let alone heated ones.

You need to check things out, before attempting to corupt someone about basically what they are talking about. Actually, YES there are some areas all over California that do in fact have Heated Floors in the Basements, as well as in the houses and some businesses also.

As far as my asking about which Pittsburgh that was being referred about, it certainly could have been just as well the Pittsburgh in California, as well as any other State, to possibly have a Pittsburgh Town/City.

The problem with California...

Is, in fact, the lack of basements. And perhaps the lack of barns and old farmhouses, too.

This puts on-property storage at a premium and so you don't have people keeping as much good, old stuff--especially larger appliances. The exception is old cars; people will keep those around (they don't rust out here) and for some reason they think they are valuable. Too bad we can't turn them into old washers.

The second problem is that there is nowhere to inexpensively and easily store and display one's collection. If I had the room, I would have a couple dozen appliances now (as opposed to 5 or 6), considering that I've been collecting for over 20 years.

My dad found the washer's original instruction packet (which will be included with the washer):

The washer is a Speed Queen FA6121 (solid tub) circa 1976; very good & working condition.

Still trying to get the exact model on the dryer. An installation sheet was found refering to series 108,109,110,134,135,136 & 137 dryers--if that means anything to anyone. It is, I believe, an early '60's dryer.

Should finally have some pics in a few days, or as soon as someone goes back out to the property.
