Well, I almost pulled the trigger on a Speed Queen TL set today. Feeling nostalgic for a good old American top loader. Decided to switch back to the Imperials for a while. Of course bringing in a new set means one or both of my current sets have to go. Suppose I'll wait a week or two and decide then.

Am I crazy?

You have two sets in the house and are concerned that's crazy?

I have one washer & one dryer in my designated utility room ... and three more washers in the master bathroom draining into the bathtub, one at a time connected to a Y-tap on the faucet.  Need to get a four-way tap to minimize swapping hoses.

Been There & Done That

Sold off the top loader (compact WP) but kept the matching dryer. Soon will have another euro front loader and matching dryer. This along with the Hoover TT means am done for awhile.

If and or when the Miele ever goes will consider something with a larger capacity in terms of a front loader. Maybe a SQ or Laundrylux/Wascomat unit.

To answer your question: Of course you're crazy! What sensible person buys a new laundry pair simply because he's bored with the old one and tempted by the siren's call of a shiny new set on his dealer's showroom floor? It's an addiction. There's a reason we call them "dealers", Malcolm.

OK, that was a completely disingenuous stab at prudent advice.

What I really think: Kick one of dull old sets to the curb, whip out that Master Card and post some SQ video, mister!

my advice would be if you go with a speed queen top load i would suggest you keep as well eather your miele washer that heats the water for whensomeone is sick or for washing big comforters that would not fit in a topload washer or your actual speed queen set witch would make 2 speed queens in your home

Speed Queen means SPEED!

Washed and dried two loads in 2:20(H:MM) time. Forgot how nice and fast the SQ's are. The Miele's would be just finishing up the 1st load...

Sickness...

The real sickness is that I was researching a new refrigerator purchase and got sucked into the laundry zone...

new set

malcom i totally understand! i have a 3 year old frigidaire set, i just ordered a new ge HE top load steam 5.0 cu ft set! mainly because i need a machine that is QUIET and big capacity not to mention i was itching for a sanatize cycle again. i guess i will just sell the frigidaires on craigslist.

Speed Queen dryers

I have been told by a salesman that the new Speed Queen TL washers are still good workhorses, but that the dryers are not well made in that the tubs tend to fall apart in use.

Just what I've heard.

I have a SQ TL set that are about 1.5 years old, and I'm satisfied with them.  However, I was at my mother's home last week and used her mid-90's Dependable Care set and it almost made me want to "go shopping".  I ran one load and had the water level cranked all the way up and could not get over how much water was in the tub!

Washday

I ran the SQ set all day today. Nice to not have to iron all my business casual wear. Need to refocus on the refrigerator research...

Distraction-free fridge shopping: Be strong, Malcolm; you can do it!

But...since they're delivering a refrigerator anyway...if a nice top-loading Speed Queen set in need of a good home should hop aboard, no harm in that, either. Right?

Will it make you happy?

I say if the answer is yes, then get it, for old times sake, and hold on to it!! You'll love it, I love mine! We now have 3 AWN542 models in the family along with matching TOL dryers! I have a set, my brother just bought a set, and my mom has a set also!! Now, are we sick? LOL
