Speed Queen Washer arriving soon:

I'm going to be getting a Speed Queen Washer pretty soon and so far what I know about it as a problem is when it is filling the Water enters real slow, no matter if it is Hot, Cold or Warm. I've asked the Friend if the Hoses have been removed and the Screens checked and they told me that they have, but it still didn't have hardly any Flow for filling the Washer.

I thought that it might be the Water Valve, might the Solenoids not allowing the Plunger's to open enough for better Water Flow? I wondered if some Sediment might have gotten in around the Plunger's, causing them to not open totally, or is there something else that might be happening wrong?

I'm not familiar with Speed Queen Washers & Dryers, other than when I was a Teenager {way back when} I asked my Mother to take our Laundry to a Laundromat that was located in our Neighborhood area and they had the Solid Tub Speed Queen Washers. I don't remember which Brand of Commerical Dryers that they have, but their Drum's were sure huge.

Thank you for any and all suggestions of what I should be looking for, after I pick-up the Washer and are able to check it out, in hopes to get the Water Flow operating again properly.

valve might need dissasembled and cleaned,or a hose might be
pinched/kinked-what is the year of the machine,i have a 1984
version of the design introduced around 1981-i could have a
look at mine if yours is '81 or newer.

Thank your for your reply and info to try. I haven't even seen the Washer as of yet and I'm not totally sure when I will get over to my Friends to get it, but I will certainly post the Model Number soon after it's arrival.

The Washer has been replaced somewhat recently with a "D-D" Kenmore Washer and I haven't even seen that Washer yet either. "BTW" my Friend still has the Matching Dryer to the Speed Queen Washer and I'm in hopes that they will be sure to let me have the Dryer, whenever they plan too or need to replace it. I might even offer them another Dryer, in trade for the Speed Queen, just to make sure that I do get it from them, before they forget about my wanting it also.

One of the first things I do when adding a timed-fill SQ to my collection is to remove that pesky flow-restrictor in the water-valve. You can then adjust the water pressure at the faucet to determine how full the machine gets before it starts to agitate. I hate a machine with an overflow-rinse to start agitating in the rinse, before it obtains a full tub of water.

How have you been doing? Thank You for you info, I hadn't even thought that this Speed Queen Washer might actually be a Time-Filled Washer, instead of a Pressure-Fill Washer.

Again, without my having any knowledge with Speed Queen Washers, if I were to even look for the Flow-Restrictor if it is being in the Water Valve, then I'm assuming that one would have to take apart the Valve, to locate the Flow-Restrictor, am I correct?

"BTW" might anyone happen to have an extra Repair-Master for Speed Queen Washers & Dryers. Given that since I'm seemingly just getting started with them as a part of my collection and needing whatever of possible Repairs, to know how to take them apart. I would be willing to pay someone for the Manuals and Shipping as well.

water pressure from the main could be a factor...not everyone has the same.....

Amazon.com for repair manuals....I got one that covers many different models thruout the years

If anyone has a flow restrictor...let me know...I need one for my SQ solid tub....

Well, you'll know when you first see it----if the lid opens to the side----it's a solid-tub. To the rear---a perf-tub.

Hope you enjoy it. Either way SQ's are fun washers.

SLOW FILLING SQ 1980S WASHERS

If it has a perforated basket its not timed fill. Check the inlet screens but its not likely the problem don't remove then to clean you risk getting dirt in the valve and causing a stuck valve and flood. But if it has the slow fill on hot warm or cold the fill inlet check valve is bad you can either replace it or by pass it. Its located under the washer top at the rear in the hose that goes from the inlet valve to the tub cover.Its also never a bad idea if you are going to use this washer a lot to buy a new inlet valve they are fairly cheap and easy to replace don't waste you time taking an old valve apart if a new one is only 20 30 dollars. Inlet valves can be fixed in some cases but its not worth the possible problems if a good new one is available.

Just a thought, with the aerated water in the solid tubs can this aerator mechanism/valve get full of lime buildup? alr2903

Thank you for your suggestion, I will be checking everything out, after I become Owner of the Washer and I will certainly let the Club know what I find being wrong, causing the Water to Fill slowly.

Speed Queen Water Restrictor

I was just reading your thread about slow flowing water in a 1980s speed queen, am I right? I have a 1984 Speed Queen that is still running just like the day I bought it. The problem is in a water restriction screen within a tube that prevents taking all the pressure from the house, it gets clogged after a while, it took 23 years for this to happen. Under the top of the machine in the back there is a plastic tube within a tube an aerator I guess where the water goes into the machine, I took a long nose screw driver or even an ice pick and pushed the screen out of the small tube and now the machine fills up fine now. I don’t know if this helps. They are great machines, so easy to fix and I’m not a trained repair man. I changed the pump 2 years ago and changed the brake pad last year and the water intake valve. That was it, the machine is still running fine.
