So my washer has stopped with water in it. (Why is it always the underwear/nappy load?) It agitates and spins and so does the water but it won't leave the tub. Pretty sure its the pump. Not surprising considering what came out in the wash, fossilized zipper pulls, bits of what not, and solidified who knows what. I swear some it was antique detergent and gobs of calcified pot metal. Does anyone know where to get a filter for these things?
It's a mid 70's solid tub from Canada, model #AD 601w

Internet searches have turned up little in the way of parts for this model. Akronman said its a common pump so without model numbers, how do I know which pump to buy?
Westytoploader posted a video on Youtube and he put in a beefier pump. How do you know which pumps are compatible with which models? His is a little older than mine. How did that affect the wash/rinse? Better?

could be something causing the washer to not get up to speed in spin(such as low
fluid in the clutch)-when the washer spins, water in the inner washtub is thrown
over the top into the outer tub to be pumped away,if the pump is not pumping
out the water in the outer tub will slow the inner tub and prevent the water
throw-over.Very little to go wrong with a speed queen pump to prevent it from
pumping, but it's possible an old sock or something has plugged the outer tub
drain-but more likely washer is not spinning fast enough due to slipping belt or
low clutch fluid.

suggestion:

In your picture at the bottom left at the front is the pump. You could try loosening the thumb screw on the bottom of the pump, removing the clamp, then pull the cover down and off. Put a shallow pan under to catch any water that my come pouring out and have old towels ready. It sounds like there is an obstruction inside from what you describe and you may be able to clean it out and reassemble it. Take some pictures of the process and let us know how it turns out.

If it turns out the pump is shot there are replacements available. Here is one that is on ebay as we speak.

Good Luck

I had a piece of metal, at the bottom of the outter tub, clogging the opening to the pump......once removed, all worked fine.......

you can also check www.easyapplianceparts.com .....their in Canada....thats where I get most of my parts for my SQ

these machines can also be gravity drained, pump not needed if you have a floor drain.....

Pumps

There are 2 different pumps depending on whether you have a solenoid shifted machine or a reversing motor. Your machine looks like a reversing motor SQ. The pump in the picture above looks like a one way pump.

The 23907 pump was already in my ebay queue as was another similar pump. Seller recommended measuring the clamp size before ordering. Have not had a chance to take it off yet. We have two more fields to hay before I can really give it a go. Meanwhile the laundry mat is killing me. I knew I should have bought that wringer...
