I just got one of these new-to-me/used Speed Queen front load washers from John during his latest trip out to MN. I'm wondering if there is any service documentation for them floating about out there.

I have already milked the SQ website for all its worth, I have the Installation, User Guide, Parts List and Spec sheet. I'm curious if there is any more info that perhaps isn't quite as "public". I'd love to see a schematic and any service docs etc. Cycle timing would be cool too! Any of this exist?

Ultimately I'd love to get into the control of this solid basic machine and reverse engineer it a bit. Perhaps ending up retrofitting it with something else to give more versatility.

I haven't got the machine installed yet, I'm doing some plumbing to allow it to install alongside the currently used Whirlpool belt drive machine.

Phil, Contratulations on getting one of these. I have found that the most effective way to get great rinsing results is just to let it go through the regular cycle, then set it for an extra rinse. It does not extract completely between the water changes so the very good final spin really helps prepare the load for the extra rinse which is almost sudsless.

If the load is balanced enough to go into the high speed spin, which it usually is, I find that the extraction matches that of my Miele. Five huge bath sheets which make a full load in the SQ and in the 37,000BTU Frankendryer are spun so well that they dry in less than 35 minutes.

There are two procedures taught by Herr Dr. Jetcone Charles for increasing the water level. Which one you will use will depend on the type of control. I raised the water level in mine to where it just reaches the bottom of the door so adding an item after it fills is impossible, but I think it helps the rinsing.

I don't know how you feel about cold water rinsing up there in the land of the frozen north, but you can get a warm final rinse and a warm extra rinse in the machine and with the hot water you save in the washing, you can economically use the warm water rinse.

Once you get accustomed to washing in a front loader, you will view filling a top loader with all of that hot water as just not worth it for most loads, although for certain things, the top loader is the preferred machine to use. Do use a good powder HE detergent in it like Tide HE and I think you and your mom will be very happy. Please tell her I said hello.

Thanks for the comments, I'm looking forward to getting it up and running. The old belt drive will get a bit of a rebuild once I have the SQ running although it probably will only be driven on Sundays.

John dropped one of these SQ washers off for our other brother here in MN too. I just talked with Jerry this morning and he has his up and running. So far he pretty impressed with the no-nonsense machine.

I still hope to score some deeper documentation for this machine. I may have to contact Alliance or one of their distributers.

Phil, I see that my rinsing prescription was not clear. After the washer completes the cycle, set it for Rinse and Spin cycle. This rinse can be warm or cold.

One thing I notice from your pictures is that the holes in the tub vanes are much larger in your model and the stainless steel is more highly polished. My machine has a very matte finish tub and the holes in the vanes are much smaller.
