Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Jon, Congratulations on the new Miele. I am jealous that you can still select higher water level rinses. If I could change two things about mine, I would liike to have high speed spins between the wash and rinses in the W1918 and the ability to get high water level rinses in the W1986.

So, does the tub light stay on through the whole cycle? What does "Further Extras" mean? Does the selection "Further Programmes" bring up different cycles or is it a provision for some yet to be invented cycle? I read that the UK is going to crack down on household energy & water use so you might have one of the last series of Mieles that allow the higher rinses. If it's good to have a Miele, it's even better to have two. Hope you enjoy yours in health, wealth and happiness for all time.

Is there anything besides the Mieles at your Aunties for fun and excitement?
Best wishes, Tom

Hi all,

Steven, yep this Miele has an internal heater - in fact most if not all frontloaders ever produced for sale in the UK have had inbuilt heaters for the past 20 or 30 years (correct me if I'm wrong, Mike et al). The fridge freezer next to the washer is the "spare" fridge freezer which acts as an overflow from the tiny one in the kitchen. It's a bottom freezer, not sure of the cu.ft but the freezer has 4 drawers and the fridge is the same size, except with shelves instead of drawers obviously.

Tom, the tub light only remains switched on if the machine is turned on but a programme isn't running - and also when you open the door at the end of the cycle. It turns off once you press the start button, unfortunately really as it would be pretty cool for watching :-). Further Extra brings up an additional set of options via the menu - Extra Rinse, Soak, and Rinse Hold. Further Programmes brings up more programmes via the LCD menu - Dark Garments, Curtains, Pillows, Sportswear, Outerwear, Proofing, and Separate Rinse - same as the Specal Programmes button on my Miele however my Miele only has 4 programmes (Outerwear, Denim, Shirts & Starch) available on the separate programmes menu. Never knew about the crackdown on water use in the UK! Although if a lot of brands of washer here cracked down on water use even more, a lot of washers won't be using water! Does your 1918 not spin fast between rinses? Both of my Miele's spin at 1000rpm between rinses, and the length of the interim spins depends on the weight of the load and how much water the load absorbs & extracts (during the spin).

My aunt lives only a 30 minute train journey away from London, so hopefully there will be a day or two spent there, probably with a negative effect on the bank account with shops and all that.

Thanks everybody else for their responses,

Jon

Wow, cool new machine. I'd never knew that people would light the interior of the washer.

Has any mildew built up in the soap dispenser yet?
