Springed Weights

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Was about to say that there are no wires going to it, so no sensor.

My guess is tuned vibration absorbers.

Masses on springs with specific weight and stiffness.
Once the cabinet vibrates at a certain frequency, these vibrate exactly offset, creating destructive interference.

Is used on skyscrapers as earthquake safety as well.

Weren't these Samsung-Tags horrible at balancing?

That would pretty much explain why.

I can't see any counterweight on the tub itself and a vibration sensor mounted off the drum would have to be verry sensitive and potentially verry inaccurate.

Those little weights won't do much to keep a tub from going all over the place...

true Neptunes have these built into the door.....

for the most it must work, why else would they be put there.....extra expense for no reason?.....might as well toss an old sneaker inside the cabinet as well, serving no purpose, except maybe absorbing noise...

consider them noise cancelling headphones!...for the most part, thats what they do, cancel out noise....

is it LIVE, or is it Memorex?

Further investigation finds that the "reactor" may be a power transformer.

Concrete counterweights are involved.  Per service:

9700 uses two weights attached to the front of the outer tub.  *6700 & 8700 add a weight at back of the tub behind the pulley and one at the right-rear of the tub.

*9700 has an F&P-style direct-drive motor so a weight there cannot be accommodated, nor is one needed to counterweight the belt-drive motor mounted below the tub on the 6700 and 8700.

Here is the manual where I got the pic from:

Yes Henrik, they were horrible!  At least the one I had was...took it back to Lowes ASAP because it couldn't even spin a perfectly balanced load..then it would take off with an obviously whop-sided load and bounce the whole house.  Hated it.

Harmonic Balancers On FL Washers

These do nothing to help balance the load itself,

They are very effective a minimizing cabinet vibration and some noise however.

Maytag used the door mounted HB and SamSung used these HBs to help make up for poor cabinet construction, with better construction technics you probably will not see these costly HBs much in the future.
