I have a SQ dryer(ADE3LRGS171TW01), no heat. Popped the front bottom off yesterday, noticed the element turned on, all 3 (what i could see, think there's 3). So, I ran the rest of the cycle, watching for the first 3 or 4 minutes, element always on. Closed it up, end of cycle, clothes damp.

Today, with more time, I made sure the lint trap to the blower was clean. Reached into the back exhaust as close as i could to the blower, was clean. Cleaned the vent from the dryer to the outside. Ran a cycle, flow is good. Elements not lighting up at all now.

Is this just an element kit job?

Non-heating Speed Queen electric dryer

Hi Bill, it’s super simple to take the heating element out and look at it. It’s just two screws. You don’t even have to unplug the wires, lifted out and inspect it carefully for broken or open spots. There’s just one element.

You could have a thermostat that’s intermittent. If this dryer has a timer I would place a bet on a bad timer contact if it heats sometimes and not others times.

Unplug the dryer first, John

That WAS easy. So, the element looks fine. It does have a timer though. Could use some guidance on next steps.

If I go the timer contact route, how do I go about it? Are you saying just the contacts where the wire plugs into the timer, or something else, like a solenoid?

Electrical measurements

I took some voltage measurements and what I came up with makes me suspect a bad fabric selector switch. I'm skeptical because the element turns on for a few minutes, then off.

My measurements are in reference to the motor side of the element (lets call it L2). As you can see, at the fabric selector switch, orange has 240 in reference to L2. Black is 120, likely coming from the motor. However, blue is 0V. I've confirmed I'm on permanent press, so it should be on all the time, or at least most of the time.

Any thoughts?
