We are in the market for a new top loader w/d set. Ws currently have 2005 (?) Whirlpool Duet front loaders but, apparently (a service tech told me when I told him the serial number), ours was made in Germany. It has worked well for the family of four, plus three dogs, plus countless foster dogs since day one. in fact, I was talking to the technician about a different appliance when the whole serial number question came into play. Whether or not all that is true is not the point. The point is, they have served me very well. We are redoing the laundry room, which instigates the new purchase. They do look a little worn on the outside.

Anyway, I was sold on the Speed Queen. I am not a whistles and bells person. I own a BlueStar range, if any of you are familiar with that. It is very basic--it doesn't even have a clock. My SQ retailer just told me that SQ had a call with distributors and said they are focusing on the TR7, so they (Speed Queen) are not selling new TC5s. Does anyone know if this is 100% true? Yes, I can get a set online (I think) but the SQ won't service them? Is that true, too.

The digital display of the TR7 even freaks me out. That is not the only part. The doesn't wash well part, or put another way, it isn't the TC5. But, would you buy that or a Maytag 575? We are down to two adults and the elderly dogs now, too. It won't get the same workout as the Duets.

No TC availability issues on NE

My mother just ordered a new TC5 about 2 weeks ago. No worse availability than any other appliance right now. I live in CT. My sister ordered an FF7. Nothing about ‘focusing on TR’ when either order was placed. Not so sure about your retailer, may be pushing the TR cause that’s what they have on stock. I have a TR5, no electronic control panel, and I love it. I’m a mechanic, my wife is a hairdresser and my daughter work on a farm. Never an issue despite what people on here who like YouTube and magazine articles say.

That being said if you’re looking for the old school speed Queen wash action the TC is the way to go.

All the best,
Keith

I haven’t heard that the TC5 is not available but I know that our local dealer tries any and all sales tactics to keep someone from buying one. That being said if you buy from a reputable servicing dealer the TR7 does come with a 7 year parts AND LABOR warranty. The TC5 still has a great warranty at 5 years parts and labor. Either machine is built better than anything else on the market.
