SS KitchenAid KDS-17 Dishwasher needs home - San Fran Bay Area...

Hello Everyone,

I posted last month about my KDS-17. You guys helped me diagnose and fix the fill valve. (It was clogged.) But now I must part with this beauty as it just does not have the capacity of my 11 year old Maytag MDB9100. The Maytag is cheaply built, has been recalled and fixed, and is nowhere near as nice looking as the Hobart.

BUUUUT...

I can't get a days worth of dishes with all the big stuff into the KDS-17 as I can into the Maytag. I'm tired of hand washing what doesn't fit, so tonight I did the swap. All the dishes fit and the Maytag is so much quieter. It may quit tomorrow, but as they say in Hot Rod Land, "There's no substitute for cubic inches."

Sooooo....

I'm offering my KDS-17 to anyone here who wants it. Name your price.
I'm not putting it on Craigslist unless no one here wants it. AW people get first dibs.

I really DON'T want to part it out as it's in too good condition not to keep intact. Also, I don't have time to pack and ship a bunch of parts.

Taker can pick up or I can help deliver it a reasonable distance from Palo Alto.

Condition:
I just pulled it so the top is a bit dusty. I'll clean it up tomorrow.
The heater box has some minor surface rust.
The frame is straight and rust free.
The SS panels have no scratched or dents.
The tub interior is etched to a matte finish - no longer shiny.
The silverware rack is new.
The lower rack is missing one tine in the back.
The soap dispenser has a small rust stain near the bottom.
Chrome and SS trim and front panel are ll in excellent condition.
I have the original Use and Care guide.
I have a new set of replacement door springs.
I have replaced the timer unit and cycle select switches.

It's perfect for a single person or couple. It cleans well and is fast!

Jim, don't be surprised if you end up posting it on CL that a link to your ad shows up in a new thread here.  It wouldn't be the first time that's happened, and it might turn out to be a segment on a circuitous route to a home for your machine with an AWO member. 

 

You have a beautiful series 17 there, but I'm a devoted fan of carefree loading so a one-armed machine isn't for me.

Also Jim there might be people here that would love your KA, but aren't geographically close to you. If it weren't for me being in another country and on the opposite coast, I'd definitely be interested.

Just out of curiosity, what were you looking to get for it?

Home for KDS-17...

I was hoping to get something South of $100, but at this point I'm pretty much willing to give it away as long as it's to someone who will appreciate it.

You're right about the geographic location. A DW isn't something that's easy to pack and ship and would not likely survive the trip unscathed.

When you say "one armed machine" I assume you mean the wash arms. This one has a small upper rotating sprayer. Not really an arm, but it does get the dishes clean. I never had to pre-rinse the dishes. I'm really amazed at how much more my crummy Maytag will hold and it seems to get the dishes just as clean, but it takes about 3x the time.

I'd take it just for the panels. I have the SS panels on mine but they are not as nice as yours. It is a bit more of challenge to load but I am amazed at the amount of dishes I get in mine.

I caught the post on CL and posted it here, Jim - seems funny to see this thread after just posting it earlier today, a few days later. Oh well, sorry everyone..I missed seeing this. Best wishes on finding a home for the washer, I like it regardless of wash times!
