Staber Washers

I was wondering if anyone has tried one of these new but old technology washers. They are made in Columbus Ohio. They seem like a better alternative to the front loaders offered on the market today. I'm a new member and love the site it's nice to know that I am not alone in my love of older appliances. Mark

I had considered a Staber before ultimately deciding on Speed Queen. I found a plethora of bad press on the internet, so I stayed away. No local dealer and seemed very expensive. I never seen/used one, but what I was seeing on several sites lured me away. Google it and decide for yourself.

Wow! It's amazing how many major appliance manufacturers have plants in Ohio. Is it because of the close proximity to the steel mills? I knew Whirlpool has several plants there but not the company that makes Staber.

I had a customer bring theirs in for service back in March.The instructions specify not to use powdered detergents especialy in the dispenser.The oversudsing and overloading had caused the unit to malfunction.I replaced the lid lock,lid switch,presure switch and had to rig the sump hose that just hung down and kinked causing the drain water to back up slowing down the final spin.As I received the parts and attempted to replace the presure switch,the damned cheap ass plastic part broke right at the air pin you put the presure hose onto.Here,it takes two weeks from the time you order the part to the time it arives.You can do next day UPS but it costs an additional $55! Once I got the second presure switch,I had to be real delicate on instaling it.Then,I had to rig the sump hose.I used a plastic strap. The same ones the cops use for handcuffs.It worked fine.
As far as their performance goes,they're absolutely among the very best.But they have no authorized servicers and will have their "techs" guide you as you attempt to repair your own unit.I am sure that those who have and don't abuse them are very happy with them.I ran 17 loads through the one I repaired and,other than having to adjust the dispenser's water flow,after that,it rocked!Other than the cheap plastic parts that are so brittle,they break just by looking at them,the Stabers are pretty good units.They're a bit pricy ($1499)but easy to use,very economical using a lot less water and electricity and are the most popular top loaders used in solar and wind powered homes here.

The were some of the worst washers we have EVER had. No service and when you need a part it takes over a week to get grandma staber to send them. they will not wash over 15 lbs and do a half ass job. I junked them both after less than 6 mo. awful just awful is the BEST I can say for them. We did not have problems with liquid or powders in them but just cheap crap.. Our price on them was 995 each but if they cost over 100 that is too much for the poor quality.

Suds, would noise be a factor long ago someone posted they sound like a helicopter on spin, because of the hexagon shaped drum? curious minds... alr2903

Read what others think of Staber

Noise was not one of the many problems we had. motor control board and drain pumps every 2 weeks were. had to replace motors on both after 5 and 6 weeks Service "lady" is a 3 B BITCH ! They took the first 2 machines back and replaced them with 2 more that were even worse. Expeceted to see MADE IN CHINA SOMEWHERE ON them. Just dont want to think us quality has slipped to this trash.

The model I watched had no spins of any consequence until the final spin; not an efficient or effective rinsing strategy. That was soon after they were introduced so maybe that has changed.
