I don't ever remember any discussions about if products like Spray 'n Wash, Shout!, and Oxi-Clean REALLY work. Any opinions?

Use Spray n Wash stick, wouldn't be without it. Keep it near when changing bed linens, table linens so can rub a bit on stains as I see them, then chuck the items into the hamper until laundry day. It is also good for shirt collars and cuffs.

Zout I remember from nursing in that it was developed and sold to nurses for removing Betadine stains from polyester and cotton uniforms. Dial Corp bought an interest in the company at first, but now totally owns it, and has per usual changed the formula. Think they have added "oxygen bleach" which means you cannot let sit long on colors without risking fading.

Shout is also good, use it when I run of of stain stick

Thing to remember about most of these products is they mainly contain surfactants (detergents). If you have lots of stains/use too much, there may be a problem rinsing all the product out. Zout is *VERY* concentrated and once caused my Miele to super suds lock.

If I have a load with more than one stained item or items that are badly stained, I to a pre-soak overnight with Biz, then launder, rather than using stain sticks or sprays.

opinions

Wow, as opinionated as we are about detergents and softeners, I'm surprised there has only been one reply to this thread, but I really would like to hear some more thoughts on the subject.

Shout

I use the Shout gel with the scrubby thing built into the cap/dispenser, you turn it upside down, squeeze out a little gel and then move the bottle around to scrub it in, I think it works great ..........

Tide's in ..Dirt's out

I have always used a little bit of Liquid Tide and rubbed into the stain and then washed. It has always worked great for me and since it is one less thing I have to buy , there is more room for lots more Tide and Downy.

For my stains-

I like to use OxiClean as a booster, and it works well.

I also like the Spray n' Wash stick.

Never have had great results with Shout-any style.

I think it depends a great deal on the type of stains, the water, and the machine.
Not every product is great on every stain. Aerosol can solvents are great on greases, but only so-so to good on biological stains, in my experience.

Of course, I am one of those who have been known to rewash an item more than twice to remove a stain.

I am currently using Shout in one laundry room and Spray-N-Wash in the other. I get about the same results with both products but also have been known to wash things again if spots aren't removed on the first washing. I've tried the stain sticks, squeeze-gel-scrubber kinds as well but like to spray most things. For greasy stains, I will sometimes pretreat them and add a little ammonia to the washwater. When using the duet for dirty jeans, many times with grass & mud stains, I rarely pre-treat and everything comes out great. I would attribute this to the higher detergent concentration & formula (HE), longer wash times, etc.

Shout

I use both spray and gel Shout. They seem to work really well on all my stains. I have heard of using the orange hand cleaner on greasy stains.

I use the Shout GregM uses with the scrubber cap. I have for years and have been very happy with it. I've used solid and spray in the past. You all probably know this, but if you use the spray versions, don't spray it on or near your machines. It will take the paint right off!

I use and love OxyClean as a soak/booster, and "certain" white items are pre-soaked in it each washday as a matter of course, afterwhich some is also added to the general wash cycle. I have been most pleased with the OxyClean and Clorox brands of this.

The Shout gel with the orange scrubber top really works well. Also, any unused gel on the scrubber liquifies and pours back into the bottle. It's great on stains of all sorts, and is convenient as a pre-treater....sometimes, I'll treat the stain days before washing, with good results.

Bubble gum

My wife washed a whole package of Bubblegum with a load of white Izod shirts and white pants. It washed OK but did'nt do well in the dryer.Pink gum was everywhere. Tried freezing, scraping, nothing helped. I used WD-40 to get the gum out of the inside of the dryer. So I decided to try it on the clothes.I sprayed it on all the spots ,then waited about twenty minutes and washed them over. All the gum was gone and did'nt let any stain. Might not work for everybody but sure saved a lot of good clothes from the rag bag.

old style vs new style fabric softeners

So any opinions as to whether the new style fabric softeners work as well as the old wax-based ones softeners did?

I have used a cleaner like "Goop" here at work-"GoJo"a waterless cleaner-When I changed a tuning chain-got the grease stains on my clothes-Put the "GoJo" on the stains and they washed out!!I was figuring that "Goop" was a waterless cleaner like "GoJo"At work here they get it in large pails and refill the containers on the dispensers in the rest rooms here.
