Starting the year out right...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

First up...

A 1964 A702. This orphan was a rescue from one of my favorite haunts: The Salvation Army 'As-Is' store. A... 'friend' called me when this showed up.

This will need a fair amount of work as the internals were, well..., butchered by the previous owner. The timed bleach injectuion system was completely removed and a ton of multicolored shaker can paint sprayed all around inside. Grrr... Some people... Also needs a lower transmission seal.

Next up...

A nice 1958 142. I've been kinda following this one for a few years but the elderly customer loved it too much. Then she finally called me to come get it as it flooded her laundry room. Nearest that I can tell, a port that the drain hose connected to corroded and failed.

This one was a special find as QSD_DAN gave me the matching 641c dryer way back when since he'd thought that he'd never find the mate. Well...

I wonder if the agitator was replaced at some point. This looks too new (it's a 213686 agitator...)and it's a black PowerFin!

Hey, Dan! Look, this one pulled out easily as well... (Oh, MAN! Now I'm going to have to run faster... LOL!)

Speaking of LG...

A LG Tromm WM0532HW. This was a pile rescue. It has the dreaded LE code. It's kinda interesting so I'll chance the $26 Hall Effect sensor and play with it before I decide if it gets kept or adopted out... Grit your teeth, Dan. Here's a pic... Hee hee hee!

It reminds me of my MAH7500 in a few ways. Once I fix it and clean it up, I'll shoot some pics and maybe video and post them in the correct forum.

This is the LG that I had in Houston, TX.I also had its matching electric dryer. I found the set at a thrift shop for $225. I sold the set (once my move was set) for $750.

I've been saving these for last...

I've always said that the best machines in a collection have a history or story behind them to bring them to life. These 608s were owned by my wife's parents. Purchased in 1979 in New Jersey, they have done a ginormous amount of laundry for a large family. 31 years of faithfull service while moving all over the country. They finally were retired last year in Eureka, CA. and sat covered on a back porch until they could come to me. SO, they will get a loving work over and brought to new condition. Sorry, but these will stay with me. Under pain of death. The wife will NOT be parting with these. Actually, she might part with me before she parts with them... LOL!

LA608 (Dec 1978) and LDE608 (Mar 1979)

What's missing from this picture...

Another small repair shop in a nearby town was closing and told me I could have a few machines. Three wringers (a Wards, Maytag and Kenmore) and a good condition AMP which just needed a pump. In anticipation, I managed to locate a NIB NOS pump for a steal. Then when I called to arrange to get them, the owner decided to inform me that they 'went elsewhere'. No apologies. No nothing! Oh well... There's the rest of the year to go...

A nice skirted agitator. Hey, Dan! Look, it's an agitator that actually lifted out with ease...

This one was a special find as QSD_DAN gave me the matching 641c dryer way back when since he'd thought that he'd never find the mate. Well...
Ok, you somewhat redeemed yourself

A LG Tromm WM0532HW.....

RCD - great hauls you've got there. Bummer on the AMP. Been there, done that (with an AMP too!).

The 142 certainly is a special find. You know as well as I do how scarce those early 142 with the AMP top and lids are. I don't recall many over the years that have shown up here on AW. And it still had the gold anodized lint filter. Amazing.

Lastly, nothing like a washer and dryer with a story. Fantastic, simply fantastic. Looking forward to seeing them sparkle again.

Thanks for the link, Ben. Simply wonderful. In honor of that picture of the yellow 142/641c set, I'm gonna have to get mine in the same pose... I'll bet that Blackstone layout puts our MickeyD in a tizzy... LOL!

"I don't remember the black PowerFin agitators being almost see thru at the fins... This can't be period correct for this machine..."

This is why I want to hear from Paul to see if he has tried swapping the Power Fin from his 206 into his 701 and running it at the regular agitation speed. I did that in my baby bol 102, but with the 50 cycle pulley and the results were amazing. I'll bet they would even be superior to the high fin Bakelite agitator at the slower agitation speed of that machine. The PF agitator is shaped to promote much better turnover and combined with the large unperforated section of the tub opposite the fins, it really sends water currents up along the perimeter of the tub to carry items in that zone back up to the top. I am thinking that when we restore the 702, we will leave the original motor pulley on it so that I can try it with a Power Fin. Even though the New Generation Power Fin-equipped machines had a slightly faster agitation speed, they also had perforations in the area where the older tubs were solid so I hope that the Power Fin in the original Helical Drive machine will be a net gain.

The way Maytag used up the remaining tops from the AMP machines on the first Helical Drive models reminds me of the thriftiness of homemakers who, upon discovering that milk had soured, immediately planned on doing some baking. It was not wasted.

MT TRUCK LOAD SALE

Looks like a great way to start out the new year, sorry that the AMP got lost maybe it is still around ? I would try to find who got it. Once you get these done you can come and rebuild several MTs that we have at the museum. I actually got the CA900 all together last weekend and working and now the matching CDE750 is next on the list I will try to post pictures. When I put the dryer together I will also finish the pink 1958 HOH gas dryer that Bob of Hollywood and I started working on last year, it is the match to the 641C that you have good luck with all your projects hope to talk soon.

Tizzy Indeed, Redcarpet Lizzy LOL

Goin' nuts for the convertible semi-automatic Blackstone. Will have to ask Ben what's going on with the control panel which he can see in the full-sized pic. Here, it looks like an old stereo is suspended atop the machine. Maybe Fred has seen a few of these pass through his old store. Would love to hear about them.

Those drawings of the Maytag filtered agitator with the water currents flowing, squirting, and squishing helter-skelter--aren't they amazing?....pure washer porn, and from a modest, chaste Maytag no less. Ben's thread: was there in the beginning then somehow missed the glorious end. What a treat, now. Thank you both, very much!

The carpet's been empty for a while, Andy, and now you grace us with a slew of Tags. How they endure. What did the Wards WRINGER look like--that would have been cool to see.

Nice story about your wife's Mom & Dad. Guessing they--the machines-- were still working when retired to the porch.

Glad you got John out talking about working on HIS 900; he's been contracted to fix MY 906s, the only automatic Tag I own... tap...tap... tap,..

Maybe I should contract you, Drew.
