I was out paying some bills today, and stopped into a used appliance store here in Bettendorf to have a look. I found mostly newer Maytag, Shredmore, and Whirlpool DD machines. I did see a Whirlpool BD in almond for $50.00 has the double-duty super surgilator, a GE FF it has settings for the mini-basket but no mini-basket or filter $50.00. And something that really shocked me an Inglis with the dual action agitator. The GE has toggle switches for water temperature. If I had the $50, I would like to have gotten either the GE or the Whirlpool BD.

How the heck did an Inglis get to Iowa?? It'd be like me finding a Monkey Wards machine up here! lol

Kenny beat me to it, but I was going to say that Inglis has been at BestBuy for a couple years now - just a few models. If it's direct drive with a white panel and blue or gray print, it's probably an Inglis that originated from BestBuy.

For some legal

reason, Inglis was the name for Whirlpool appliances in Canada for many years. I would imagine that Pete or our other Canadian friends might be able to elucidate.

I really like the GE that I saw today. Toggle switches for temp control, and a dial for water level settings. But, how do I know if it's a Filter Flo? Would it have said Filter Flo somewhere on the control panel? It didn't have the filter but it had the ramped agitator. The GE was in better shape than the Whirlpool belt drive. If it's still there in a couple weeks, I might be able to get it. But only if it's a real Filter Flo.

A little Inglis background

Inglis was a manufacturer of just about everything in Canada for years. After WWII, they wanted to branch out into laundry equipment so they bought the rights to manufacture Whirlpool appliances in Canada. This made a lot of sense because in the pre-NAFTA days, there were some pretty hefty duties on imports from the USA. Inglis was finally taken over by Whirlpool completely some time in the 80's.
To the best of my knowledge, the Inglis appliances are still built here (well, in Toronto) but I never thought they were distributed in the US - who knows - that may have changed!
