Stove Recommendation Needed!

I am planning out a kitchen remodel, and buying/collecting appliances toward that end. I have, upon the urging of my wife, decided not to use the yellow 1952 O'Keefe and Merritt stove. The oven is too small, and, you know, Happy Wife-Happy Life...

I still would want to use an older stove, but the criteria are:

1. Gas.

2. Oven at least 24"W X 20"D. She cooks a great deal, and to her, size matters.Don't want to disappoint her!

3. Prefer 4 burners with a griddle, would accept 6 burners without a griddle.

4. No lighting with matches.

Can anyone point me toward stoves that would fit the above description? I will pay a fair price and drive " a fur piece" to obtain such a stove. If you can post photos, so much the better!

I've attached a picture of a stove similar to the one I told you my aunt had.  I think this is something your wife would fall in love with, and I saw one like it on our local CL not that long ago.  I've also linked to the web page that tells a story about this stove, provides more pix, and also has some vintage advertisements for it.

Tammy and I spoke about her "stove needs" she really likes the width of her current modern stove, which has an oven 24" wide, she is being fairly adamant on this point ( but I'm whittling away at her resolve - I hope!). I cannot imagine finding a vintage stove having that wide of an oven, but I'm holding out hope someone - ANYONE! - can steer me toward such, if it exists.

That really was a beautiful stove...

It's an Ugly, Stainless Maytag . . .

...of an unknown model and year. No offense to the Ugly Stainless Maytag fans, I just want the vintage look if possible. Wife wants the ginormous size, and " Watever Lola Wants..."

Steve, there are vintage stoves out there that have one wide oven and one narrow one.  I think however, that most I've seen are GE models, which means they're electric.  Maybe someone here knows of a gas type that offers something similar. 

 

My aunt used to crank out huge dinners for about 20 people with her O'Keefe & Merritt.  I have a 36" single oven on my range, and have found there are times when I'd rather have two separate ovens (making popovers comes to mind), even if they're smaller.  You'd be surprised just how large a turkey will fit in one side of a dual oven range.

I Was Actually Looking At A 60,s Norge . . .

. . . For sale locally on Craigslist, just spoke to the owner tonight. It is a 36" stove, and though without either a griddle or the two additional burners that " She Who Must Be Obeyed " is wanting, it does appear to have a larger oven, though perhaps not 24" wide. You might take a look at it, and tell me what your opinion is if you have a chance. If I was even slightly competent, I'd in lude the C.L. link, but, alas ... Well, perhaps it might work.

The norge, its a mid 60s model and does have a wider oven, Still a Borg Warner Product, If it were pink, white or turquoise...and on the east coast, I would jump all over it, one just like it in Roanoke Va, coppertone and all for 450.00.....Yeah right!!!But it too is a nice range,    Just too much money.

The copper one with florescent lit panel looks like the exact one our next door neighbors had when I was a kid.  Personally, they're both too modern for me and not nearly as substantial as ranges that are a few years older.  I can't stand flimsy burner grates that rattle around and turn red on the tips when using high heat. 

 

Steve, you have the challenging task of providing  the modern convenience she wants combined with vintage craftsmanship and substance you appreciate, but it's not impossible and just requires patience.  I think you'd end up in the dog house if you brought the white one home.  ;-)

It's the brown one..

I couldd not abide that white one. The brown one is not as old as I'd prefer, but mostly meets my wife's criteria, except only four burners/no grill. Going to call the owner today for dimensions of the oven.

I have nearly the same range as the folks in Miller Beach - the oven is narrow but deep and, despite that, has fairly big capacity (and excellent temperature holding).

Well, my suggestion is neither vintage nor gas, but if you want to please the wife, show her an induction range.

I have not yet seen any woman (or man, for that matter) that has hated induction -- some people dislike it a bit for a week or so, but after a month I have not known anyone to want anything else.
