I do miss the Lady!

You are so right! I love the Lady Kenmore name. I personally don't think it had anything to do with ladies doing the laundry. I think it was more of a nobility monniker. This wasn't just a washer, it was a "royal" washer. This would certainly make this lady feel that I was in possession of something special. It's a shame that political correctness has driven us to the point of generic numbers to designate the BOL's from the TOL's.

Lady Kenmore...

Growing up out next door neighbors were the first on the block to do a major remodel on their house(which was less than 10 years old at the time) which included a 2nd story addition of 4 bedrooms and a bath, remodeling 2 existing bedrooms into a family room, and a new kitchen. The original kitchen appliances in all of the houses were a 1959 Hotpoint wall oven and cooktop, fridge, disposal, and washer and dryer. Our neighbor's new kitchen was ALL Lady Kenmore: wall oven, cooktop, a built in dishwasher, disposal, fridge, and washer and dryer. Coppertone was the color of choice. It looked great too from what I remember(I was probably 4 or 5)
Well Mrs. Herr(our neighbor) was very proud of her new stuff, so much so that she kinda became the Hyacinth Bucket of our street, prompting some of the neighbors(my parents included) to nickname her "Lady Kenmore"
I have to admit everytime I see Kenmore on an appliance I think of Mrs. Herr!
A side note: There were 3 kids in ther Herr family. Of all those LK appliances installed in the late 60's, by 1975 when the Herrs moved out of that house the LK dishwasher had been replaced, as had the disposal and the washer and dryer. I think the new DW and W/D were Kenmores again(and coppertone) and the new disposal was a Waste King. For some reason the stuff was not very long lived in Mrs. Herr's kitchen!
