Okay, so here's my brush with the unexplained......

In the fall of 1999 I purchased my first house ( still live there today ) in the suburbs of Baltimore. I moved my parents out of the house I grew up in which was in a rapidly declining city neighborhood, into the new house. The house was brand new and had never been occupied before us. On December 16, of that year, three days after my 23rd birthday my father suddenly passed away from a fatal heart attack. He died in the house, in bed, right beside my mother. Skip ahead to late May, 2000. Mom and I are in living room packing up my dad's clothes to donate to charity. While we are standing at the foot of the stairs leading to the 1st floor and all of the sudden there was a slight breeze and the smell of my father's after shave. The smell lingered for several minutes before finally abating. About year later my mom was working from home in the office which is in the basement. She heard the front door open, close, then the sound of heavy boots walking on the kitchen and dining room floors above her. My dad always wore boots. She thought that it was me who came home and started calling for me. When no answer came she went up to investigate and of course, no one was there. Needless to say, for someone who vehemently denies the existance of anything supernatural, she was a bit unnerved. The footsteps continued off and on for a couple of years. We haven't heard anything for the last few years, at least not the footsteps. There have been a few other things that have occured over the last couple of years but, mainly just noises, like the sound of the powder room door closing on the 1st floor. The sounds of pots & pans moving around in the kitchen, etc. Just enough to get your attention, but not much to scare you.

My second experience that I had was two years ago this month. I had gone to the Chesapeake Pride fair in Annapolis with a good friend of mine. While we were standing around talking with a few friends that had joined us I suddenly experienced this sensation that all the noise around us was quickly fading out and I had that " flee or fight " urge. At the same time I became aware that my good friend had a look digust on his face. He quickly spun around and in a loud voice greeted someone who was standing beside him. As he was introducing this person to us the was getting worse. At the moment our hands touched to shake, I felt as though I were going to be violently ill. As soon as we let go, the feeling subsided. After a few minutes I felt normal again. An hour or so later my friend told me that the man he introduced us to was his former boss and was HIV+. It was known that he was having unprotected sex with young men and not letting them know of his HIV status. I have always been good at reading people and getting a "sense" for them, but that was the most instense thing I've ever experienced. Glad it only happened once.

Chris

Chris, please tell me your post above doesn't mean you're afraid to shake the hand of or give a hug to anyone who is HIV+.

No, not at all. I think I felt the way I did because of his actions of not telling his partners about his status and having unprotected sex with them. And mind you, I knew nothing of his status until an hour or so after I had that "feeling".

Ok glad to find that I am accepted person and not put out by all of you. I am going to the 30th party in ma. Boy are we gonna have some good conversations. Can't wait. Another experience came to mind this morning that I want to relate. Years ago a good friend named Paul and I lived together for about 10 years. We were taking down the Christmas tree together and decided that we would exchange some of the ornaments that we had grown up with. He let me choose a couple of his and the same with me. He passed away 4 years ago from heart problems. 2 years ago my wife and I were sitting in the family room and the Christmas tree was in the sunroom. The lights were on the tree and the tv on. I was sitting there looking at the tree and saw one of the ornaments that Paul had given me. I pointed it out to my wife and we were both looking at it when all of sudden it flew off the tree and across the room. We just sat there and said I guess Paul is here visiting. Got up put it back on a different branch and there is stayed. Strange happenings for sure. Can't wait till next saturday to meet some of you guys and gals.

Yellow Dandelions

When I was a child, I would pick yellow dandelions for my Mom. They were always special for both of us in that it reminded her that I was sill her little boy. My Mom passed away in October of 2005 and at the visitation, I made a comment to myself that it would have been nice to have yellow dandelions on the coffin flower spray. After the visitation I returned to my Dad's house and since there was nothing to do, I went into the back yard to pick up pine cones and stickes. About 45 minues later I bent down to pick up a stick and there among the dead grass was a lone yellow dandelion. I know it was my Mom's way of telling me she was ok. Now it's 2008 and as some of you have read, I lost my Dad in May. A few weeks before his death, I kept noticing tons of dandelions in bloom. More than usual and in places that are mowed quite frequently. We had a grave side service for my Dad and I was going to give his eulogy. I was quite nervous not to mention the emotions going on with losing ones Dad. Just before I rose to give the eulogy, I looked up and between 2 grave stones was a yellow dandelion. No other dandelions were at the cemetary, but I knew my Mom let me know she would be there for me. It's not a scary story but I like to believe that our loved ones let us know the're sill around.

I love this topic too!

I have enjoyed reading everyone's post on this. Been wanting to post, just been super busy getting ready for my road trip Vacation.
I have had far too many experiences to post them all here. But I truly "believe", and more than just paranormal stuff too.
Had my first psychic dream at 9, it came true, and when I had that deja vu experience, I freaked out. Will never forget it. I was 13. I also know if I have the same type dream 3 times, it comes true.
My mom had a gift too. I always was interesting in reading her paperbacks on ESP, paranormal, astrology, at a very early age. Was just drawn to it. (And still am)
The day she passed away, quite a few freaky things happened that morning. I remembered I had a dream about her that morning before waking. I was the last one of her kids to see her the night before, and was able to say I love you and goodbye.
I was getting ready to go see her at the hospital that morning, but had a 6 month old baby at home, it was raining outside, and I was taking my time. I remember something came on TV, and I thought oh my god, she's gone, so I had the feeling I had to hurry to get to hospice. The lights went out, came back on, and I had a very strange sad feeling, that I was too late. Minutes later, my father called me, and said the hospital was trying to contact family to let us know she had passed. Why on earth they called him...they were divorced for over 25 yrs, and they knew to contact my older sister. Anywhoo, he said, he was sorry...etc....and I left pretty quick for the hospital. I got there and had my time with her before the rest of the family got there, and they took her out. She was cremated and I have cared for her Urn all these years. After she passed away, I moved into the home (I grew up in) to take care of it until we could sell the Estate. Lights would come on, cupboards open. Her Christmas box going off on its own during the holidays. Typical Mother playing jinx on
us. I had alot of dreams too - just letting me know everything was "ok".
Fast forward to December 2005....I missed my first "wash-in" with the Texas folks, because my cat was very sick, and I had to put her down that day. Bad timing. I was an emotional mess that day, to say the least. My daughter at the time, would not let me dispose of her, I HAD to get Jasmine cremated. So there she sits on the mantle next to Mom.
That night, I kept hearing meowing, everytime I was around the spot where she laid. Heard it a couple of more days after that, and haven't since. I knew those meows were her saying she was OK. We had her for 10 yrs.
January 06 - I swear I saw the ghost of a man in the downtown offices, as I was waiting for the elevator one night. This particular elevator opened and closed a few times. I thought it was weird that it was malfunctioning like that. It opens and closes a few more times, and I thought, I am going to take another elevator. When it does open there is this man standing in the corner it closed and opened again...and he was gone. I got the willies so bad. I'll never forget how he looked. Just motionless, fully dressed and no expression on his face. An Asian engineer walked up and said something like: Are you alright, because I must have been, "white as a ghost", lol....I said, OMG I just saw a ghost.
He must have thought I was fruit loops...(maybe I am)
I never saw him again, but there were times when I had my office on that floor, I would avoid that elevator if I was alone. Never saw him again.
Last year while visiting Omaha, my friend Brenda and I went to the Villisca Axe Murder House, in Iowa. Oh god, we had so much freaky stuff happen to us, I cant even go into all of it. I do remember standing in the upstairs room and she was checking an etch a sketch someone had left and I got a cool breeze and a strong scent of roses. I told her to stand by me & see if she could smell them. We were in the house about 3 hours by ourselves, and had doors open, a toy ball roll off a floor grate (where I had placed it so it wouldn't roll).
We have alot of interesting pictures too.
I will be back in Omaha next week (hi Greg!) and I believe we will be going back to Villisca again for another "tour".
I feel as though the older I get, the more stuff I have happen to me, that can not be explained.
I realize how blessed I am and embrace it fully. To those who don't understand, or think I'm nuts, I can't nor won't try to explain it to them. You either understand it, or you don't.
I just wished I could pick the right lotto numbers to retire and travel. LOL
Sorry for the long post...just had to chime in.

I've had many so called para normal things happen throughout my life but a few really stick out. The most vivid was back in 1975 when my best friend and I had just moved out to Vancouver and rented a studio apartment on the 20th something floor of a hi-rise (studio = one room, no bedroom, kitchenette, like a hotel sorta)
Anyways, one night I'm sleeping on my newly purchased bed and Brian is sleeping on the couch across the room when I feel something touching my feet and I awaken. In the dimly lit room at the foot of my bed I see a dark shadow like figure standing there. I ease myself up on my elbows to get a better look and I can see Brian still asleep on the couch across the room. Then the shadowlike figure sort of glides over to the couch and stands overlooking him. It then glides over towards the balcony window and disappears at which time Brian shoots up from the bed in a terrible fright about something touching him.

Another time in my early early teens I was visiting my friend Elsie for whom I used to babysit her 2 kids. She was quite into the paranormal and was explaining to me about syncronicity of events. I left about 2.30 in the morning and wandered a few blocks home. When I got in our house I was fixing something to eat in the kitchen, everyone else was asleep, when I heard a thud coming from our diningroom. I went in to see what it was and there was a book laying on the floor in front of my dads bookcase. It was one of my mothers books on pschology and it was open to a page discussing synchronicity of events.

my experience

I have only ever had one experience. I saw a shadow - black , around 6 foot high walking into the room where my grandfather died. The shadow, was most certainly a man, solid black and I will remember it till the day I die. I dont know what it was, but I dont think it was 'nice' .....

I often have the feeling that I am being watched in my house. If anything seeing this shadow, confirmed that there is something.

On a different note, like some threads here I swear that I have seen my dog Oliver too around the house in the corner of my eye. If anything I think this is comforting and hope we meet again soon ! I have no faith in god , but I think there is something to it.

Just wanted to share.

Neil

Neil,

I have never seen Shadow People but have a friend who has. On Coast to Coast talk radio Shadow People are very common and on the rise! More and more reports of them. I wonder if there are Shadow Washers ???

haunted here too

My house was built in 1897 as a wedding present. I have seen a "white vapor" and have found out that it was the young bride who was married in my house when it was brand new.
I also can feel a presence when I play the piano in the parlor, like someone is standing on the stairs in the foyer, watching. This only happens at night though, and my dog won't go upstairs by himself in the late evening unless I am up there.
This is a great halloween house, what with the pipe organ and wrap around porch for the little goblins to come calling. Gary

"white vapor"

Gary ... that's the best way to describe "it!" We have a few of those in the house, and it is even more interesting to see them in a photo you take, and you swear it was not there when you took the photo.

Someone standing on the stairs, watching ... ah yes. I can relate to that. To me, that's one of the spookiest feelings, as you don't necessarily see (peripherally on occasion), but you feel.

Do you have a pipe organ in the house (an organist here). Was it original to the house? -- just curious.

Another strange happening at my house

Yesterday morning I was in the kitchen making coffee reading the newspaper feeding the dogs etc. I had been in and out of the room several times that morning. I was standing in front of the stove wearing flipflops and felt like I stepped on something. I thought it was a piece of gravel or sand. I moved my foot and there on the floor was a gold hoop about 2 inches wide. Not an earing or a bracelet just a gold hoop with a small circle on the end. I asked my wife if it was hers and she said no not mine. She had a friend over the night before and I said to call her to see if it was hers. She did but her friend only wears silver no gold. Ok where the heck did this come from? Will be interesting when the time comes to clean out my aunts house in CA to see if there is a matching one there. Things keep happening. Have been having some real wierd dreams lately about paranormal visits. In one of the dreams I was alone in the house about to get into the shower and I felt fingers gliding across my neck. I turned to see who it was and all I saw was a black figure out of the corner of my eye and it went thru the wall. Glad that was a dream. Another I had the other night was real strange. I woke my wife out of a sound sleep with the noises I was making. It took her a couple of minutes to wake me. I couldn't talk in the dream. I was so scared of something that the words wouldn't come out. It was just garbled groans. Strange.
Hey Rob was the name of the store that we were talking about last sat at chuck and richs that had the midnight madness sale on albums maybe Tower Records?
Jon

I'm still undecided as to whether I beleive in all this

But the ashes of my Great-grandma who died in 1994 and my grandma who died January of this year take pride of place beside the fireplace in our living room. My great-grandma lived in Ipswich (a 6 hour drive away) but we brought her ashes here when she died. I was only 5 when she passed away but I was very close to her and I do get a whiff of her scent in the house sometimes, it was one of those scents you don't smell anywhere else. Other than that I see things out of the corner of my eye, shadows and the like but I usually just put it down to my mind playing tricks.

If I did see something that was undeniably the ghost of one of them I would not be sacred, I think I would find it comforting.

I know a lot of people are put off by the thought of having ashes in the house but I wouldnt want it any other way.

RE: Another strange happening at my house

Hey Jon,

I think we were talking about Tower Records, but they moved out of New England. Cheapo Records in Cambridge has "midnight madness" sales on occasion.

Well ... you certainly have been having some interesting stuff going on. Wonder what it was as my house has been active the past 24 hrs.: Coffee maker was reset AGAIN, something was following me up the stairs this morning (at first I thought it was one of our dogs, turned around only to see a "white" figure out of the corner of my eye. Last nigh, I was awakened by the sound of a radio, but there was no radio on.

Do let me know if you find the match to that earring at your aunt's house.

Enjoy the weekend.

Rob.
