Strange PowerClean Issue

WELL, I replaced my Inglis PowerClean with a WP PowerClean. This is a well used machine. Anyways, if I select high temp wash/rinse, it heats the water and then all of the sudden one of the two door switches fails and shuts the machine off. It fails in the open position. I have to take apart and rebuild the switch (once it cools down) and the machine works fine. Pretty sure the water heating effects the door switch in question, seems like a LOT of amperage is running through it to get it so hot I cant touch the switch.

Previous to this heating issue, I swapped out the thermostat as the cycle hung on wash for an HOUR with no movement on the timer when it was heating water.

What could be going on here? Should I just junk the machine as its one step away from being a fire hazard? Or just not use high temp wash/rinse?

Potato, thats what killed my KM version. Loved it but so much plastic melted in the control panel, it had to go.

You had the same issue too? Did you ever find out what caused it?

No, I bought the dw used and it washed anything I put in it. I started to notice a 'hot plastic' smell when the dw was running, but only once in while. I thought it was just my imagination. It just stopped during the wash cycle while it was heating the water and never came to life again. When I took it apart the melting was quite apparent, but no clue what caused it.

Hot And Burning Door Switches

You need to replace the door switches AND the push-on connectors and at least 4" of the wires that connect to the DS with heaver ga wire, usually 12 Ga is best, this will solve the problem, we see this problem every week on various DSs and thermal fuses on DWs and some other appliances as well.

Thanks John, I'll give that a whirl this weekend. Is there any real traceable root cause?
