I think it may have been the MSG in the Hamburger Helper. Later on I found that I was sensitive to it. So when we go to Chinese food places I only go to places that advertise that their food is MSG free. And a lot of the restaurants around here are like that.
 
MSG???!

I have heard Americanized Chinese food frequently contains msg. Yesterday a few of us from work ate lunch at a popular Chinese restaurant in the area. Yesterday afternoon and last night I could hardly keep my eyes open. It was either msg or carb overload.

We have some German friends with the same bias. If it's not seafood, steak or another high-end protein, to them it's hardly food at all. At our first dinner together, one of them ordered seafood primavera and was irritated when it was served on a bed of pasta. I watched him eat every bite of the seafood, while working around the pasta with the precision of a surgeon. The funny part is that the body needs both protein and complex carbs to feel satisfied, i.e. pasta with seafood or steak will satisfy your stomach for a very long time.
