stupid questions

hi everyone
thanks for the warm welcome the other day. I really enjoy reading the posts. However, as new member and as someone who is not so much into washers and dryers (oh, I can feel the death rays descending upon me now...), I have to ask: What's a wash-in?....when do these take place?...where?...and do you guys actually wash anything or is it just a good excuse to socialize?. I know, pretty stupid questions, but I wanted to know.
