Looking at two Subzero refrigerator only units. One is a small undercounter model asking $185 the other a large one door counter depth model asking $150.
Just looked at the little feller and had a couple of questions.
It hadn't been used for "a real long time" and had been plugged in just a few hours before i saw it.
The tube running down the back was already thick with frost and frost was building up inside on the rear wall cooling element as well. The door hung low in the corner and allowed a little air in.
The big one is beautiful. 25 years young being the one caveat. It has nice wood on the door and the inside is in essentially perfect condition.
The owner is a carpenter who picked it up from a remodel job along with it's freezer twin, which he sold some time ago not needing it. He never used this much and is now sliming down for a move.

Undercounter model there...

might just have an evaporator problem. For the $150 on the big single (probably a model 501R)…you'd get 20/+ cu ft., and probably have a more reliable unit. Won't say the full size SZ's don't have any problems, but the ones I've had have always been pretty good. Check it out fully, though…!

Photo inside the single door 501...

has cold control set for 10. Better investigate that fully…should hold safe temps (circa 38-40 degrees) when at something like the 5-7 mark.

.
The guy set it to 10 as I looked on because he plugged it in when I got there and wanted it to cool down faster.
No it doesn't work that way but why spoil his fun?
It is a beautiful 501. The hands down winner between the two.
