Hello again!

I decided to make a thread about sudslocks. Post photos of your machine sudslocking or sudsy washes or rinses. I will try to post as many as possible.

Thanks!

I dont even know what sudslock is?

Never heard anyone mention it in the UK in relation to front loaders, supprising as I spend all day talking to the general public about appliances.

It seems to be a term used quite widely on here - though id never heard of it till i joined the forums. I try not to use the term often coz it just sounds abit daft to me.

It's a term I'd never heard before reading here

Basically it's when far too much detergent is used so that when the machine tries to spin, thick foam clogs the pump and gap between the tubs, causing suds to overflow out of the gap between the tubs and flow down the glass.

This results in huge strain on the motor, and I would imagine will do the bearings no favours, so they are certainly best avoided if you want to keep your machine in good condition.

Damage to the machine aside, if the machine dosen't clear the "sudslock" by the end of the spin, none of the detergent or water is really removed during the spin and a thick layer of suds is dumped into the next rinse, giving extremely poor rinse results.

I've pretty much got my doses now so that this never happens for me. On a rare occasion it does happen, if the machine dosen't cut out automatically due to the strain on the motor being too great, I stop the machine and make it repeat the spin until all the suds are removed so that rinse performance isn't compromised.

Excess suds going down the glass - i.e. you've used too much washing powder. Probably an American term, and yes I'd never heard of it before I'd joined the forum.

I think Jo public will only ever know the effect if they are ever near there machines when it happens, but dont associate the terminology!!!

Its the oner thing that all detergent manufacturers are plagued with on the Customer Support Helplines at the moment!!!

If you`ve ever used a twinny you will soon associate the powders that "Sudz Lock"...lol..."Daz or Persil Handwash...Rinse Forever Formula" ...Lol

I assumed it was when overdosing causes soap powder to to congeal on outer tub and prevent the inner drum form spinning (locking)?.

Ive never seen this so I am not sure, I am sure some of our friends from across the pond can clarify this term as I think 'sudslocking' is originally a top loader term.

SudzLock

Hi Bertrum, I think you are probably right about the term and toploaders, but anyone using "Handwash & twintub Powder" in the UK is more than familiar with it....its the point when the spinner starts losing its speed and you get a rather muted sound, no water out the pipe and the "Mr whippy" up the spin can sides!!!

Persil & Daz Handwash & are the worst....heres a "SudzCake before the Suszlock"

That hybrid changeover quartz really does intregue me, i remember when it came up on ebay i realy wanted it to compare to my quartz. I'd never seen it before until it turned up on ebay!

Sudslock

I think Hoover mentions it in their 'Product Service Data Books', in relation to the Hoover 'New Wave' and the minimal drum-tub gap.

Here is my old Whirlpool sudslocking majorly after a 95* wash with Drive Matic Liquid detergent. Quite a bad wash in many respects as the machine had major sudlock and i ended up with pink socks due to a technical non human *cough* based error....a sad day in my laundry room.
