"I like bread and butter. I like toast and jam. I like the taste of Sunbeam Bread, it's the finest in the land."
I heard that jingle on TV in the 80's while living in Philadelphia.

This is chemo week and I take something to the nurses everyday. Today I'm making Raisin Bread and using up 18 egg yolks that I had left over from Walnut Angel Food cakes. I added orange zest and a little sour cream for the yeast to feed on. First thing you know it was a batch too big for the Kitchenaid Pro6, so the Sunbeam came out of the cupboard and off the stand to rescue me.

Ready, Set, Raise

45 raisin buns, waiting for the right moment to be cast into the Fierey Furnace! Orange zest in the dough and orange juice in the glaze.

Grab Your Forks

They never saw it coming. One minute pale and lily white and the next, browned to a turn.

Kelly those look just fabulous! I bet your house smelled wonderful when all those were baking. I love the smell of bread in the oven.

I agree

You got nice buns, babe.

You have presented them well with the pics.
I can almost smell them as they come from the oven. And Orange, yummy.

Oh, those look spectacular. Presentation is half the experience!

BTW, that looks like a KitchenAid in your kitchen - did you replace the Maytag?

That looks like a good way to use up yolks from angel food - my mother has a great Cracked Sugar cookie recipie for when she makes angel food, but there's always more left! We need to start a cyber-cookbook for this site!!

Maytag Stayed On The Hill

The Maytag stove and dishwasher stayed in the condo when I moved. I sourced a free Kitchenaid dishwasher, almond range hood and Whirlpool range from Craigs and bought an Amana with freezer on the bottom for $50. I stepped right back into the eightes, in matching almond. I miss the flexibility and silence of the Maytag, but the Kitchenaid cleans flawlessly. I had forgotten how fast coil burners are.

Kelly, they look splendilicious!! I can't eat rasins anymopre, but I'd have to have just a little bit anyway.

And what do these and the chef have in common? Gorgeous buns!! A gentle hug. Bob

They do look Wonderful..........

I can usually cook without too much of a fiasco. Not all cooks are bakers, Kelly you have the Baking Gift. I hope your treatments will zip along,I know the nurses appreciate your thoughtfulness. alr2903

Kelly when you mentioned the Sunbeam Bread jingle I knew I had a vintage Sunbeam Bread tv commercial somewhere in my collection. I found it and uploaded to YouTube so everyone can enjoy this. The commercial from around 1960 has to be the silliest bread commercial I have ever seen.

Betty Crocker is in the Hospital

She sat on the oven and burned her buns!

Robert, you never cease to amaze and enthrall me with your links to the past. I loved the dopey commercial and my folks had a 1960 Pontiac.

Thanks everybody for the good words and best wishes. Third day of chemo down and one to go. I'm getting a blend of three, plus antibodies. Sunday, I will start hormone therapy in an attempt to get the bone marrow to produce blood cells. I hope it gives me a deep voice and big "feet" like Gary.

Bob, I'll take a gentle hug anytime. I hope to see you at the wash-in, to collect.

Kelly, my hormone therapy has given me a slightly lower voice, but with richer tone. Nothing else has gotten bigger. But I keep getting hairier!!!

Robert-You never cease to amaze me... I thought it was nifty..Then again i am a product of todays boring tv
