OK, well, I finally put some water in the coffee pot and ran a cycle. Surprisingly it worked! It got hot quickly, the water rose and bubbled like a cauldron, the thermostat snapped and after a few mins, the water went back down. I carefully rocked the top piece back and forth and surprise! It came loose! Well, at least I know it will work.
Now here's the issue. The rubber gasket is very hard and glazed. It's not crumbling. I took it apart and the little O ring inside did crumble. So here's the question, is there any way to revive the gasket by cleaning with alcohol (like you'd do the idlers in a record player)? Is it worth the time or should I try to find a new one? Where can I get a replacement O ring?
Thanks in advanc!
