I recently scored a mid to late 50's stainless MixMaster. It came with only one large bowl and it is glass, but after market "GlasWare". It doesn't fit the turntable well and takes the fun out of it. Do all the MixMasters use the same bowls? I would like to find at least a large stainless bowl for it, but both sizes would be great. I keep my eye on ebay but wasn't sure of the "type" of bowl to look at. This mixer does such a great job that the wanna-be KA has been relegated to the cabinet.

Just start checking eBay for "sunbeam stainless bowl." Your "mid to late '50s" machine is probably a Model 12C like in the photo below; it uses the same bowls all Sunbeam Mixmasters did through the MMA and MMB models (a.k.a. "Plasticmasters").
One tip about mixer bowls: One set is nice, but two sets of bowls and two sets of beaters is terrific. That's because you don't have to stop and wash when you're working on a large project - you just switch the dirty bowls and beaters for clean ones and keep on trucking.
You're definitely right to want stainless; they never break, they can take heat and cold.
P.S.: It sounds like the glass bowl you have is not a Sunbeam bowl. If you think that Mixmaster is great now, wait until you get bowls that fit it.

If you're in Atlanta, you might even find them in a thrift.

These will work and the price is good.
You can also use the ones for the Oster Kitchen Center but if I were you I'd want the ones that say Sunbeam on the bottom like these. There really are many out there and the price is all over the place. Just have to be careful you don't get those newer or older.
The models may also be listed by number. Any bowl for models 10, 11 or 12 will work with your mixer.

That Sunbeam supplied aluminum bowls with some model 12s which I have never seen, i think the stainless bowls came out in 64 or so.

Hans, weren't there also aluminum bowls for earlier models like the 3 or the 5? If I remember correctly, they were intended for you to cook foods like potatoes in them, then place the bowl on the mixer turntable for mashing and whipping.

Dormeyer had stainless bowls as an option in the '50s; you bought them as a set of two. The set also included a chrome turntable, so that your mixer got just that much more sparkle.
Dormeyer's stainless bowls are super-high quality, as you know. Sunbeam's early ones are not bad either. The only thing about Dormeyer's bowls was that the flange on the bottom was open, to permit drainage after washing. If you didn't let the flange drain completely dry before putting the bowl back on the mixer, the moisture would make your pretty chrome turntable rust.
Why am I telling everyone this? Because I want an un-rusted chrome turntable for my Dormeyer so bad it hurts, LOL!
P.S.: The turntable in the ad shot is not the one I need, so if you're harboring one of these, thanks anyway.

Fear not Sandy - I am still looking and I will also be doing a major review of the mixer and parts collection in 2014. You have first spot on 'the list', when I do turn one up I promise!!

I really am looking forward to getting the bowls. I've already made multiple cookies batches, cakes and cheese cake using the "doesn't fit" glass bowl. I can't believe how much I prefer this over the faux KA mixer!

You will like those bowls I love the way the clear glass bowls look with the chrome mixer but as mentioned above the stainless bowls are lighter and easier to handle especially when they are full.

....About stainless bowls is not only that they are unbreakable, the fact that they can't break means that they won't break in the middle of a project and leave you without a mixer until a replacement can be found.
Now that you've found one pair on eBay, you can keep your eyes peeled for another pair cheap at a thrift, yard sale, etc. I promise you, now that you know what to look for, a second pair will turn up sooner than you think.
Beaters are in every thrift store; it's just a question of matching what you have. Not hard to do at all, and the ladies in the thrift will love you for taking a set of beaters out of the mountain of them they have accumulated. They almost never sell a set, because very few people know what beaters they have, or bother to bring one in for matching.
Just remember that one of your beaters has a nylon button on it, to make the bowl turn.
