Electric blankets and mattress pads

Well, over the years I've tried several different electric blankets and mattress pads. They all had the same annoying feature: the clicking as the thermostat would cycle the juice on and off. And usually I'd wake up in the middle of the night overheated because the room temp dropped and the blanket tried to make up for it. That was in a rental home that had an inadequate single wall heater in the downstairs living/dining room, and the heat never really made it up to the master bedroom upstairs.

So they are all in storage now... mostly separated from their respective controls, alas. I use thick down substitute (polyfill) comforters instead, which work great. Sometimes a pair of thick socks and a sweatshirt to stay warmer. The forced air central gas furnace here does a pretty good job of heating the entire home for not too much $$$, so that's what I also rely on.

I suppose there might be silent electric blanket controls these days but I've given up looking.

The Sunbeam controls we got with our latest blanket(2009) are silent.
You must be a light sleeper. One of our neighbors had to replace his furnaces thermostat because he could hear it clicking on an off all night long.
