Does anyone remember Surf tablets? The package was purple, white and orange. In small print on the side, it states that the product is compatible with HE machines, but specifies that the tablets have to be added to the cylinder, not the dispenser. I thought of them today and opened a box. One tablet with STPP is fine in the SQ fl, producing more suds than TIDE HE, but not so many that they interfere with the spins or rinsing. In spite of using Miele fabric softener in the last rinse, the drying fabrics gave off a very nice Surf fragrance. [this post was last edited: 4/26/2015-20:09]

Tom I do remember Surf Tablets and bought them every time I found them. Most of the time they were on sale. Little boxes were all I could find that only had (if I remember correct) about 10 or 12 tabs. I loved it! Loved the smell and also the cleaning. I used them mostly for towels.
It seems to me that I would usually find them at either Kmart or a few Dollar Stores. I was upset when I could not find them any longer.
It seemed like Surf was so popular. Their tabs and also powder. I always wondered why they quit making it.

I remember them well - I bought them whenever they were on sale and then when they were discontinued, bought as many as I could find. Liked the Spring Burst flavor - it smelled more like a vintage detergent than anything out there. I still have a stash of 4 or 5 boxes and use them occasionally. I find that one tablet in a small - medium load in the SQ top loader or 2 tabs in a full load work fine. Little sudsing even in our soft water and rinse quite well.

I continued to use Surf powder occasionally until they made the fragrance "even more long lasting" which changed it completely and not for the good. too bad because after they discontinued the tablets, they removed enzymes from the powder but ultimately added it back.

I also have a small stash of the Purex tabs - another unusual product. I thought they did a great job on almost everything unlike most other Purex detergents.

I am using the Ajax Pro Pax more these days so I don't wear out my supply of Tide with Bleach HE powder in the original real original fragrance. It isn't the Turbo formula but I can't take that new fragrance. Since they added enzymes to the Ajax Pro Pax, they seem to do a more complete job. And I usually get them at Shop Rite when they are $1,88 for a 20 load bag (or $.99 with the digital coupon)

This is a box of 56 Spring Burst tablets. I still have some Purex and Wisk tablets from the same time period. They all came out at an unfortunate time in that FL HE machines had dispensers which could not be used with tablets and many of the machines used such low water levels in wash that it took a long time for the tablets to dissolve.
