Scans!

Today is a dreary, cold day.  What better to do than scan some pages for Paul!

What I've scanned is all I have for service on these very short-lived mechanisms.  Robert did a write-up on his '56 endeavor a few years ago that has some great photos (link below).

From what I've been able to learn from these docs, it appears Hotpoint called their revised clutch system the "Centrifugal Clutch" mechanism, as it replaced the fluid drive clutch found on 1955 and earlier Hotpoints.  While the clutch was new, the trans/pump/motor assemblies stayed the same as the earlier Hotpoint/Bean unit.

In 1955 Hotpoint put the new clutch in one of their washers mid-way through the year, and in 1956 rolled it out on all washers.  Their Centrifugal Clutch lasted until 1958 when Hotpoint got away completely from the Beam transmission and produced their own, termed the Co-Axial transmission.

These are neat washers. The '56 I picked up in St. Louis earlier this year mechanically is in really nice shape, but the pump is shot.  Originally I thought I could just use some 60's/70's Speed Queen parts to fix the pump.  Unfortunately these earlier pumps have a smaller diameter pump shaft, and the pump shaft lengths are shorter, and the pump housing mounting is completely different.  Leave it to Hotpoint to change up the pump!  LOL

Paul, your Hotpoint is awesome.  Enjoy it in good health!

Ben

Hotpoint!

My first experience with washer observation when I was just a Tot was the Hotpoint LH7 with the removeable lid. I remember it like it was yesterday. We had it until 1961!

Nice

Looks good Paul, and you are so handy at rebuilding these machines. I wish you lived closer, my 1964 Frigidaire needs some work done on it so that the tub won't index when washing. Have fun, Gary
