Surprising Cleaning from my Neptune

We had an old dirty stained canvas gym bag that had coffee,coke and who knows what else what else spilled in it and it had been thrown in the back of the truck every day used to carry gym clothes. Tom was going to just throw it away and I was loading the machine with dirty gym clothes so I thought what do we have to lose! I put it with the other wash and added HE TIDE. No clorox or pretreating.
I set the Neptune for cotton/sturdy,hot/cold,heavey soil,water heater on,presoak,stain cycle and extra rinse.
When it came out I was just amazed. It removed every stain and NO damage to the strapes,stetching or canvas. No damage to the lettering on bag either.I was looking at the results but could not believe my eyes! This would have never in million years happened in my Whirlpool tl washer. I wish I could have taken a before and after shot. I just keep looking at the bag and can't believe the results.

Believe it or not, the original Neptune 7500 got an "A" rating for cleaning from a British consumer mag a few years back. It's just not as gentle as a, say, Miele, nor is it as frugal with water and energy as later "big" front loaders.

It looks like you picked all the right options to guarantee maximum cleaning in your Neppie. Presoak, longest cycle, hottest water, stain cycle (it forces the first rinse to be hot as well), all good choices. The one negative about the Neptune program is that there is no drain after the pre-soak. When I have really grungy wash I'll do a warm rinse/spin with a bit of detergent, then a regular wash w/o the presoak. That way the gross contamination is rinsed away before the wash proper.

I do declare, a front-laoder is AMAZING for all the things one can not wash in a top loader.

Blankets, coats, pillows, shoes, pet beds,gym bags, etc.

But I sill say for greasy or muddy messes using water (as a top-loader does) is the key.........

I have an older neptune 8 or 9 years old now and it drains out after the prewash and soak,then refills for the main wash. They must have changed the program over the years.

Huh. News to me. I didn't know that the older Neptunes did a drain after pre-soak. The only problem with the Neptune draining after the pre-soak is that there will be no detergent for the main wash unless you catch it and add more soap to the dispenser just before the main wash. That's because there's not a separate pre-wash detergent dispenser on the machine, so any detergent added at the start of the cycle will all be dispensed into the pre-soak.

In the manual they state to add double the amount of detergent that you normally would use for a load when using the stain and presoak cycle. When it drains there is still enough detergent remaining in the clothes to achieve a good amount of suds during the regular part of the wash cycle. It does not spin during this period but just a drain and refill for next wash.
