I was just visiting another site that I frequent, and on this site one of the ladies was asking what kind of razor to get her Hubby for his birthday.

I replied that it is a preference as some, like myself, don't like electric razors.

What does this group prefer? Electric or Foam and Blade?

Electric

I started out with an electric because my father used (uses) an electric. I think I MAY have tried an manual shaver one time when I was much younger... but obviously didn't do anything for me as I am still using an electric today.

I use a Braun with the automatic self cleaning/charger dock.

I used electric for 2 years and hated every second of it! Never gave me a close shave, usually ended up managing to cut myself, and the battery started dying halfway through one shave! I have since given up on electric after having 2 of them and have switched to old fashioned foam and 5 blades to be exact! I haven't looked back since, I have never ever cut myself and have never had a closer shave! I shave every other day and it seems to work perfectly!

An electric shaver is good for a guy on the go -- always late, never has time, lack some grooming discipline, has some/mostly some facial hair, etc. They don't shave as close as a blade, but can help if it can also handle some manscaping things also.

Dual-Voltage in our house

I'm a blade man, hubby's electric.

I found electrics dragged on my face and were uncomfortable. Also didn't shave as close as a blade. I shower first, which softens the beard, then put the foam on as quickly as I can after exiting the shower to retain the moisture.

I've never been game enough to shave in the shower - without a mirror, I'm lost, even on my own face.

I feel the same about electrics--the one I used pulled, it was more like an epilady than a shaver. I like to shave right out of the shower as I'm getting ready for work, if your face is damp an electric doesn't seem to get as close, skips and pulls.

Guess I should answer my own question. Twin Blade Gillette Atra. I have tried those multi-blade razors, I felt four or five blades was a little overkill and the shaving head too wide. Just a twin blade and plain-o-Barber sol for me.

Manscaping?? Don't know the term, is this the days growth look?

electric or blade?

I have been bearded, either full or goatee, since 1979, but do trim my neckline or face when goatee'd with an Atra razor that I bought in 1978. It's getting hard to find blades for it, though....

Atra

It's getting hard to find blades for it, though....

Wally-world carries them. You can get the Wal-mart brand pretty in-expensively. The Gillette brand ones are on the pricy side, but seem to last longer, I just hate paying $10 or more for blades.

Nair

For a Swedish guy, I can grow a full beard in 2 seconds. I like Nair cuz it also removes dead skin. Smells like bad eggs

Never tried electric that I can recall. Blade, Gillette Sensor or Sensor Plus with Edge gel. Have a Mach 3 handle (two, actually, don't know why two), haven't used it in a while. Got a 5-blade Fusion in the mail, tried it, pass. Have in the last few years come to dislike the entire process. Supplies (blades) are outrageously expensive for what they are, like ink cartridges ... sell the mechanism at a loss, make it up on the supplies. I should mow every day, but I skip every two days. Or three. Or four if I don't have to go be seen anywhere. Today is a 3rd day, haven't yet decided.

Norelco Rotary Face Mower

I found that I don't like to get my face wet. I've used the Norelco-style shaver since high school. (over 40 years)

Manscaping

. . . is the practice of using a razor/shaver/clippers to shave or trim other areas of a man's body, generally those lying below the neck and above the knees.

I've been using Mach 3 for quite a while but got some Schick "Quattro" samples in the mail and those things have lasted forever. It's enough to make me switch and buy a non-disposable version. Another motivation to switch from Mach 3 is that stores are out of them way too often.

Gosh

I have used both from battery philishave to braun...

....and am now a blade person...

Nothing fancy...Disposables with twin blades, lubricating strip and a pivot head....actually from Aldi (again!). My beard is relatively light and I can get at LEAST 3 weeks or more out of one razor....

I started with a philishave (Norelco) rotary back in the early 70's and I've stuck with them ever since. I'm only on my 3rd one can you believe. The new ones are pretty flimsy now compared to the old iron horse ones but they still work well.

Phillips Bodygroomer

Here's a humorous site for those devotees of body grooming or "manscaping". It is, of course, a website for an all-over electric razor named the Phillips Bodygroomer. Lots of fun learning about the "extra optical inch" manscaping apparently affords one!

I, of course, would sleep behind the doghouse if I groomed one hair on my bod, per the husbear. But what he doesn't know and notice won't hurt him!

I have a Panasonic Wet'n'Dry shaver - use in under the shower (no mirror) along with Nivea foam. Had a Braun before but the battery died. In between, I tried one of those Philishave ones but it totally f-ed my face up. *ouch*

I tried one of these fancy multi-bladed razors once but... oh no! It took my skin (esp. the neck area) almost a full week to recover. Luckily it was winter and I could wear a scarf.

I do actually have a Gillette razor but only use it for my armpits... and so on. It's just faster that wax or hair removal cremes, which I've also tried.

If I had the money, however, I wouldn't hesitate a second and get a laser treatment and be done with it.
