Swan Dishwasher

Hi all, the 1st DW I can remember using was an aunt's and for memory I am sure that it was made by Swan around 1959/60 would anyone have any information on Swan DW's

Hi mike I think you mean swanmaid who were made by swan kettles and toasters etc before they were swallowed up by moulinex . I have one its very similar to the USA version of kitchenaid, mine is in poor condition with no motor or pump just a shell really.

You switched them on and a kettle idea heated the water then a light came on and you pressed the start button water entered the kettle pushing the very hot water in to wash tub, it then heated the next batch of water ready to rinse etc, it then washed and rinsed with one huge lower spray arm, so loading was crucial for clean results.

The early models had no drain pump a simple plastic pipe was pushed up during wash to stop gravity draining water, a solenoid shifter moves this down to allow a drain at end of cycle,

This proved troublesome as the pipe hardened and wouldn't move , and burned out the solenoids .

I'd love to find a good one

Hello Ricky thanks very much for saying what that device in Aunty Joans kitchen is, I have often looked at it and wondered.
I also notice that Doc Martin went through two dishwashers over the series, first I think a Zanussi then Hotpoint graphite grey one and in the last series that was gone and replaced with what looks like an under the counter fridge is now there.
I remember the chip shop lady having a matching creda washer and dryer set, whilst she was having a panic attack on the kitchen floor

Oh, Yeah....

....Whoever drew the designs for that machine was looking straight at a KitchenAid KD-10 - or at least an advert for one! That door handle almost looks as if it could interchange with a KitchenAid handle.

H,i Thats Lulu and Manchie both she's 4 and he is 5 I rescued both of them 3 years ago from two separate homes when me last dog died, as you can see from the pictures they are devoted to each other. Both of them are very well behaved but need lots of exercise. I would never recommend Dalmatians to anyone unless you have 2/3 hours a day to spend exercising and a lot of time with them, I work from home so its easy for me. I love them both to bits
