Swapping Maytag Consoles

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

The fog clears... Pictures always help!

Switching them would be difficult. the tops would not be compatible with different holes located in different places. The openings also would not line up with each other. The tub covers are different size openings...

Why do you want to change consoles? Is it features or is it wanting the newer style features with the helical transmission?

Pictures always help

It is the newer style features with the helical transmission.

A Double Wash cycle for (extra dirty clothes), Regular cycle that's 15 mins, Permanent Press 14 mins, Hand Washables 10 mins, an extra spin setting, extra rinse cycles and 'mini' water level setting for tiny loads.

A little work, but you can switch the tranny from a orbital to a helical...everything is supposed to match up the same...you will need the brake tool and the tool for the tub bolt, maybe new seals while your at it....cause the only thing thats different is the actual BODY of the tranny....I'm curious to change this on my DC set, wanting the slower longer stroke of the helical....

but wouldn't an Atlantis version of the Maytag with the norge tranny give you the trans stroke and the control panel features you want?.....I'm looking for this myself first before I consider the change out.....

Switch the tranny...

Martin nailed it on the head. Just switch the orbital out for a helical. You'll have to replace the tub seal and bearing but you probably should anyway.

Interchanging the A712 & LAT9806AAW

Yogi, the Norgetag is not a real Maytag but, wouldn't it be interesting if the helical can be used with the Maytag Atlantis.
The LAT's "super" capacity washtub is really only 2.5 cu.ft. and I want the A712's 2.96 cu.ft. "deep" washtub in place of smaller tub.
I did a little checking at (searspartsdirect.com) and found out the LAT outer tub will be able fit into and support the width of the A712 deep tub. The LAT top cover is high enough to handle the deep tub height as well.
What do you guys think?

Norgetag's and Helical Drive

Harry,

There is NO way a helical drive long stroke transmission can be used in the Atlantis...COMPLETELY different designs.

I really think it's about time YOU showed US what you're planning to do to create this SUPER Hybrid Maytag washer you've been talking about and put your ideas into practice.

Leon, I know that...it's a "WHAT IF".

I live in an apartment not a house. I don't have garage workshop space so there really isn't enough room for "trial and error" or "try and see" opportunities. The MORE definite and absolute information with expert advice I gather the better prepared I am once the final project is in motion.

I'll know without a shadow of doubt what 'I can and cannot do', 'what will and will not work' and 'how to and how not to do' it. I'm not a repairman guy or a mechanic and I don't have easy access to guys that can work with me on the project.

So how to's with pictures and videos are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT and UNBELIVABLY HELPFUL to me.

This SUPER Hybrid Maytag washer will be my daily driver. I can't create a washer collection yet.
