Hello everyone:

As little as I like to do it, I'm taking a breather from this site until after the election. The political posts on this forum are getting to be too frequent and too pointed for my taste. The sight of certain posters' names has begun to fill me with dread, and as much as I wanted to go to the recent Atlanta wash-in, I felt that I didn't want to run the risk of having to get into political discussions with certain folks in person.

This is a great site and a great group, but there are a few posters who are making it hard to look at and enjoy for the time being. Hopefully things will calm down after the election.

See you then.

I know how Sandy feels. And I have reason to believe that someone was suspended from this site who has never launched a controversial thread, unlike those of whom Sandy is speaking. I smell a rat or maybe two . . .

I have been on the side as well due to the absolutely disgusting hate mail I have been receiving because I do not support Obama. I've even been accused of emailing other people here as well. IT DID NOT OR EVER HAPPEN! I have emailed NO ONE. I'll post on other topics but I am currently out of the political discussions.

If this thread gets the slightest bit out of control I'm

And I have reason to believe that someone was suspended from this site who has never launched a controversial thread

Huh, what are these reasons? Not that its anyone's business but I haven't suspended anyone this year except Derrick17 and Oxydolfan.

Retraction Deserved

OK Robert, it seemed odd that any suspension wouldn't be preceded by a notice from you, so clearly it's a technical problem. Since it hit so close to recent heated exchanges a connection was mis-perceived.

It seems the mysterious hate mails are hitting a number of users. That's enough of a negative side effect for members to avoid the threads that spawn them.

Lets just keep it nice, for me and mine, there is a lot riding on this election. Me thinks, folks post alot of things they would never say, to a stranger on the street. AS Gentlemen & Gentlewomen people can agree to disagree. There is enough campaign ATTACK on television, I turn to these topics for opinions, with an open mind. We are not a stupid bunch of people, so if you discover something in this time of turmoil, lets allow each other to share. Someone else pointed out that we all get kind of "barky" every 4 years. Its just growing pains. just my 2 cents arthur

This site was opened for (as well as I know)those of us who love appliances not political, religious, hateful ,arigant and judgemental ass whipes.Never have I ever seen so much division and spite. My own honest opinion?Keep politics and religion to ourselves here on his website.I thought it was ment to be used for our sharing of interests in appliances, collections, product knowledge, videos on different products operating, compassion, excitement and acheivements we have all had.I was not aware of the posibility of debates as well as critisisms on the different political issues and competitiveness that are currently going on.So,when I saw it,I was very dissattisfied and not desiring to get involved.I felt very presured, anxious and surprised to see so much hate and confusion here on this site! The only "polly-ticks"I wish to speak of as well as hear about are made by Westclox,Diehl,Timex and Swatch.

Are you a Dylan fan?

No not really, I have his greatest hits CD on my Library... maybe I should indulge.

just don't read the political threads

....or respond to them...i don't....(there's too much good stuff posted elsewhere on this site to waste your time reading the political threads).....just MHO :)

Bob,

I'm on vacation, thank you. Our semesters are not quite in line with yours.
I, too, have been getting some unbelievably nasty emails. I don't send nasty-grammes. It is interesting that both the conservatives as well as the liberals are being attacked.
Personally, I think many of us - myself very much included - are fed up with things and really hoping the next administration will be better.

Hi Sandy~

Sorry to hear you will be taking a breather. In a way, I don't blame you I guess. The Super Forum, little by little,  is turning into a blog reminiscent of The Daily Kos. I, too, have received a few nasty emails. The "brave" authors of the emails didn't have the balls to identify themselves. Go figure! Thankfully, that is what the delete button is for!

Also, I still have your package. I promise I will send it out this week. I have been very busy with work and house projects, so my apologies.

Keven, I find it interesting that you are playing the victim card in all of this considering that you and a few choice others are the ones who create the controversial threads and start throwing stones and insults about "evil" Republicans and "hateful" Christianists. While I don't agree with alot of the Republican or Christian platform, I do realize that there are many good people who are Republican and Christian who believe it or not support gay rights. I happen to know many people personally that do. I think it is unfair of you to judge christians in the way that you do or to assume all Republicans are monsters. Being a teacher, you should know better.

That's why

I differentiate between 'christianists' and Christians. You just plain refuse to accept the neologism.
Now, as for republicans, I admit to not making enough distinction between the people in the administration and people who are sincerely convinced of their view.
I will try to do better there.
As for the victim card, well - I have never sent anyone, neither here nor anywhere else a rude email. Never threatened the family of anyone, much less a person directly. Never tried to have someone investigated by the FBI and deported.
All those things have been done to me by people belonging to the conservative wing of this group.
So, yes, Shane, I am furious with some of you. Not you, but quite a few of the conservatives here have really gone way over the line in attacking me. Others, too.
I won't be a victim, but the nastier those choice few conservatives get around here, the more I shall refuse to cower.
So here's a suggestion. How about you conservatives stop attacking those of us who live in the post-enlightenment? We aren't attacking you.

Well, Keven~

I certainly don't condone the vile threats you claim you have received. That, too, is wrong on so many levels.
Look at it from this standpoint, you can be rather aggressive in making your point and you come off as extremely angry. I don't know you personally, so I won't assume that you are, but I can understand why someone might perceive you as being that way.
While you and I don't agree on alot of issues, I respect your right to an opinion and welcome it. I also think you can do your reputation here a whole lot of good if you would make your opinions heard in a more respectful and relaxed manner. Maybe that might help alleviate you receiving so much hate mail. Just a suggestion.

Shane,

That is very reasonable.
You are quite right - I am furious with the way the republicans have handled a few people in my personal circle of friends. I am very frightened by the way the Constitution has been treated and truly fear that under Palin, the US will turn into a place where homosexuals are treated much as we were in Nazi Germany.
I took the threats from one of the conservative members here very personally and have hit back hard. Openly, never anonymously, but yes, I'm the personality type which the bullies at school could never silence, no matter how often they beat me up. I don't mean spats with the killer queens here, they bore me. I mean the literal, real world attacks on my family. Can you imagine how hard it is for me to see anything but the basest of motives on 'your' side after that?

It doesn't help matters any that, despite my relative ease in using the English language I think in German and express myself without the political correctness filters and 'softeners' which Americans use.
A lot.
I will try, probably not always succeed, but try to be more even-handed in the future.
That sounds a lot like 'but they started it', which is true, but ok, no excuse.
I do confess to curiosity regarding your very conservative world view. How do you rhyme being gay with being a republican and a literalistic, fundamentalist Christian?

Keven~

To answer your question, and also one should never assume.

I am neither Republican,Conservative or a literalistic, fundamental Christian. I happen to be a gay man who considers himself more spiritual more than anything. Do I believe in God? Yes. and that's where I choose to end it.

I am also a registered Democrat who does not always vote party line. I try and do my best to educate myself with the issues and where candidates stand, then make an informed decision. I always take my vote very seriously. I supported Hillary Clinton in the primaries and felt she was given a raw deal by the DNC, Howard Dean, the news media and also Obama. I am not as far left liberal as some on this site. I would consider myself more a moderate to conservative Democrat.

To give you a better understanding, this is where I fall:

I am a fiscal conservative
I support tax cuts for small business owners
I am against the Capital gains tax
I am against the death tax
I strongly support the death penalty
I support gun control
I was, from day one, against the Iraq War, but now I believe we need to finish what we started. WE HAVE NO CHOICE!
I support a woman's right to choice, however, I couldn't have an abortion if I were a woman and pregnant.
I support gay marriage and equal rights across the board for everyone regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
I support unions and union workers
I don't support or agree with socialized medicine as it is being presented by the Democratic Party, I am in agreement more with McCain's plan.
I strongly support a border wall along our southern states and some sort of penalty for illegals who choose to come here without proper documentation.

I could go on, but hopefully this clarifies me a bit more to you. See what happens when you assume? =)
