The water company is replacing our mains so we have had, for the last month or two, our water supply running in plastic pipes along the edges of our streets and connected to our water meters by big red hoses. It reached at least 95 today and as I was doing laundry, the tap cold felt warm enough for showering so I took the thermometer to the water running from the tap and 98 was the reading I got. The tempering valve has had its hot water supply turned off for some time, but today was like living in some places in Florida or the desert. Fortunately, the peppermint press shirts and slacks came out of the Frankendryer wrinkle free, but they did not get much of a cooldown with the air at 95F. I'm glad I am not depending on a water condensing dryer right now.

Not uncommon for our tap water to make 105 or more in the summer.. in those months I HAVE to use the hot break formula on Blood work I have no other choice.

I'm running a load in my F&P, and happened to check the incoming temp via diagnostics a few mins ago.  Tap-cold registered as 27°C (80.6°F).  Water heater set on 115°F gave 107°F to 111°F (hot only, no cold mixing) for warm (at the farthest tap in the house from the heater).  Outdoor temp is 91°F at the moment.

Wow, for cold water that's mighty warm!  I guess that's the difference between Texas and up here in Frostbite Falls, where the water supply has to be buried deep in the ground to avoid freezing in the winter.  Even if it's 100 degrees outside for days at a time the temperature of my cold water coming in will be no more than 50-55.

Even in mid summer.....

...my mixing valve adds warm water to temperature controlled cold washes. Tap cold is essentially useless with Bull Run water no matter what time of the year.

WOW, 98F would probably make some dark colors run for sure. My tap is running in the 60's, so the temper valve is still actively mixing 80F.

A hot break formula is used on heavy soil and blood work. We use akali and start right off with hot water and nothing sets in, It also saves time as using 2 or 3 warm water flushes takes longer and waste more water. And it is not any harder on the linen in the long run than adding the extra wash time from warm flushes to get the blood out before a hot wash, Normally a hot break in run for 10 min then a wash and bleach of 8 to 10 mins.

98 DEGREES WILL MAKE COLORS RUN

If that is the case the excess dye should be washed out otherwise when you wear the piece of clothing and if you sweat at all you will turn the color of the clothing yuck. People often ask me why thier dryer drum turned blue or what ever and it is because they are washing clothing in cold water and then the dye transfers to the dryer drum and other items and even things in the next load paced in the dryer.

Yes, in some clothing sweat will bleach out colors. This winter was the coldest on record here and pipes were bursting everywhere. The water comes out hot here also, it's a Texas thing I think.
