A dream find!

So Cool! This is a dream machine of mine! Thanks for posting this Ben. I have reached out to the seller to see if she'll work with me so I can arrange shipping. Do we have any members in this part of the country that might be able to help me secure this while I arrange shipping? I would be extremely grateful.

Alan, keep us posted. I hadn't forgotten this was on your bucket list.

This dishwasher was always on Let's Make A Deal with Monty Hall.

didn't Paul end up with one of these?

Sigh... no, alas.... One did come up (a turquoise portable no less) at the height of the pandemic when the borders were still closed and I couldn't make shipping arrangements fast enough for the seller's liking. I'm still hoping for a Dual-Drench to really dirty up dishes to give one of my latest Maytag finds a test.... LOL

reversa-jet

Hey Alan, congratulations on your find! Most sellers will hold items until you can make arrangements for them until you can obtain transport. I hope you get it.

A reversa-jet has always been on my wish/dream list. It was in the highest rating category in Consumer Reports in 1965. CU said they would have "check-rated" (item with particular value and performance) if it hadn't occasionally toppled glasses in the top rack due to it powerful spray. They said it washed "perfectly." High praise from CU.

Bob mentioned how the Reversa-Jet was frequently on Let's make a Deal. I also recall them as gifts on "The Newlywed Game.". Announcer Johnny Olson would say, "And you will be receiving a Tappan Reversa-jet Dishwasher. The dishwasher that washes in one direction, then goes back and washes in the other!"

I am excited for you! Please keep us informed on progress.

The Previous Tappan Dual Drench

Was also "The dishwasher that washes in one direction, then goes back and washes in the other!" This recent Shoopers Square Thread was a Dual Drench dishwasher.

dual drench

Yes, Bob. However ads for the older "Dual Drench" should have been made that stated, "moistens dishes in one direction, then the other" as those dishwashers didn't seem to actually wash anything. I think management at Tappan must have hired someone's cousin to design the Dual Drench.

They told him to design a "unique" wash system. He didn't have an idea in his head. BUT, one day going to work it was raining, he happened to notice the tire on the car on the car in front of him spraying water......

Tapping reverse a jet dishwasher

Very cool Alan I hope you get this, this is a machine that I would consider putting in the museum if you get it and get it to work and want to sell it someday I may consider buying it from you.

We never saw many of these here in the east there was one condo develop nearby that was built in 1969. I believe that had these dishwashers in it slightly less deluxe version and we tried to fix them for a while. They weren’t very durable, the main pump assemblies, kind of disintegrated and the plastisol interior rusted out quickly, but the biggest problem we saw with them was the lower wash arm that was supposed to reverse periodically failed to do so, but often not turning either direction, but it certainly didn’t reverse properly. It had a neat little spring mechanism that flipped the Jets on the end of the arms and at least in theory, I’m sure they worked at times.

The dual drench tap and dishwasher was a very interesting machine. It certainly did not work well we have a more basic one that we’re going to use here at the museum to demonstrate it.

There were a lot of dishwashers that didn’t work very well even the first GE dishwasher with a wash arm that came out around 1962 and were made through 1966 were absolutely miserable cleaners but better than no dishwasher.
