Up & Up Free & Clear (liquid) received an overall score of 61 in tests by Consumer Reports, which lands it at the top end of the middle of the pack. It was rated Very Good for cleaning and removal of grass stains.

It scored substantially higher than all variants of Purex (which scored between 42-49) and Tide Simply Clean & Fresh (51). It edged out Gain and All by a few points.

For reference: Persil Pro Clean 2 in 1 (liquid) topped the list at 85 points. Tide Ultra Stain Release (a liquid) and Tide HE Plus Bleach Alternative (powder) scored equally at 81. All three were rated Excellent for cleaning and very good/excellent at removing many stains. The lowest scoring detergents rated in the 20's.

At $.12 per load, Up & Up is bargain-priced. Having said that, Wisk Deep Clean (liquid) scored 71, removed more stains well, and is only $.14 per load.

Wisk may do better, but one selling point with Up & Up is that it's readily available as Free and Clear. Stench free, er, fragrance free is my preference more often than not these days.

Point taken, Lord Kenmore. Free/Clear detergents are also better for those with allergies/sensitive skin. Up & Up is, of course, available in various scented, unclear versions; this just happens to be the one CR tested.

I'll bet

it's made by Sun....Walgreens brand, CVS brand, ALL, and Wisk are all SUN made.  We got 4 bottles of the CVS basics detergent once on sale for $2 each, does a good job, but the bottle didn't say who made it for them.  I emailed CVS and they told me it was a Sun product.  I know this doesn't mean anything, but look at the shape of the bottle.  It's usually $4.99 not on sale!
